The product is ready and waiting for GPH's approval. I have tested it with new beta firmware 2.0. It has functions like (Usb Host On - Off / USB Storage, Keyboard Mouse, Network On - Off) in settings menu. That means you don't need to run any script or drivers. It automatically recognizes the HDD, Mouse, Keyboard and mounts it. There's a new option next to SD Memory Card and NAND Memory in the GP2X's menu system. It's External Storage so you can easly access to your files in your external storage. BoB works perfect with GP2X at the moment. :)

Excellent news, now why cant they put some of these snippings on the www site?

i just have to say it: this is godly.

i'm probably getting one when i actually get a GP2x (going to korea in a few days!) i'd really love VGA out though, so i can try sticking it into my arcade machines.

:( Sorry but there is no gp2x available in here, Korea.

500 pre-ordered units are sold, and that's it. No more gp2x here. Only used and re-imported :(

You might be able to buy BoB, though (I'm not sure. I WANT IT SOON TOO!)

One question. Sorry I don't have time to read though all the posts or try to understand them. Will this allow me to connect a hard drive to a gp2x? If so I will by one ASAP. The GP2X is great on the go but on long trips one memory card just doesnt cut it.

Edit: After getting a chance to read though all of the thread it seems like it will allow it. If i see a working hard drive on the gp2x expect an order.

Most ideas are suggested, time for some wacky ones. :D
-SD Card reader(for those who have 2 SD Cards and are lazy to bring seperate SD Card Reader)
-Type B Female USB port so it powers the BOB and make it act like a USB Hub(sounds complicated), so when the GP2X dies you get a powered USB Hub(with maybe the SD Card Reader?)
-Speakers?( )

aw, so the design is the same? i was hoping since it was going to be "official" it would have some quality custom moulded casing with the 2x logo on it or something =(

Heh - very true; I was wondering if there was any chance of a slightly more curvey box. Possibly with an "Apple"-esque feel to it. Not functionally important, but it would be nice in terms of style and general sense of coolness.

And coolness is important when you're dealing with something like this!

Yes, you can connect joystick. New firmware has joystick and gamepad drivers too. But application should support controllers.

Yes, you can connect your harddisk without hassle.

im guessing around the time techfreak starts shipping the breakout boxes? since they are going to be official, and the firmware will have usb host features etc..

Do you know what a pain that'd be to mass-produce?

less of a pain than producing hundreds of the current design by hand?

EVERYONE is going to want one of these.

Yeah it would be less of a pain, but it's EXPENSIVE. First you gotta design the thing, then get the mould made and unles it's made in china it'll cost a bomb. ( I recently had a mould made for some packaging at work - cost £2 grand from China and £10 grand in europe )

Dear Friends,

I know you are all very curious and you right to be :) but fw2.0 has still some issues to be solved. It's not approprite for you to flash it. That's why we won't release it to public. I strictly advise you to keep away those torrents offering fw 2.0 beta.

"USB Host" and "some amazing games coming soon" are not rumors but facts.

Just have a little more patience for it.

Thanks. B)
