The Official Gp2x Startup Sound Topic

What about some of the sounds (voices) from StarCraft??

I instantly thought about "Channel open" or "Goliath online", from the Goliath, or what about "Fire it up" and "Let's burn" from the Firebat.

Anyhow just a suggestion, any of the sounds from StarCraft would be cool

Any chance someone can do the Apple computer boot sound the old school one not the weird new one you hear on the macbooks and mac pros.

..nothing?

This thread started out so enthusiastically. :(

Can anyone recommend an easy audio converter? Yeah, I could google something, but I'd have to sift for something that's just going to be used for this one instance.

...or just a converted, "Beware, I live!" would make me as happy as a pig in mud.

Here's the sound I have on my new, new, new gp2x:

"The Illudeum PU-36 Space Modulator!"

I have always thought "GP2X" is the geekiest sounding name for a geektoy ever. Ask 10 geeks to pick a name for the geekiest geek toy in the world from a list and "GP2X" will win every time. When I first saw the thing and knew I had to have one, the name always reminded me of Marvin the Martian. So as I was waiting for 3 weeks to get a working gp2x, I kept asking my wife "where's my Space Modulator! I need my Space modulator!" Hence the new startup sound.

I had to edit out the word "explosive" from "Illudeum PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator," partly because the sound clip was too long with it, and partly because I don't want something explosive in my hands when I'm playing Metal Slug.

I renamed it from gp2xsound.wav, because I still have the other one on the web host.

is it possible to replace the firmware v3 boot sound? holding start+select at boot with gp2xsound.wav in the root of the SD card seems to have no effect

Edit: Apparently my SD card wasn't supported by U-Boot, using a different one fixed the problem.

No way, that I know of ... aside from downgrading to FW 2.0.x ... which I reccomend anyway :)
