Win95 / Freedos On Gpx2?

Ewww!

I would never recommend anybody ever run win95, nevermind EMULATING it on a handheld. That would be one super shite computing experience. If you want to use the GP2X as a computer I'd wait for someone to port pdaxrom or Openembedded.

Er... For windows games? Why else would you want to use windows except for gaming?

which is why I have a windows 95 gaming laptop (to relive the win 95/dos gaming days!)

That's fantastic for you, but I and I'm sure others would enjoy a functioning port of Dosbox. I too have an old laptop for gaming, (120mhz pentium) but I would prefer have my DOS games available to take with me on my GP2X. (Yes, I know the laptop is portable too, but not as portable)

Emulating an X86 processor at over 33 MHz will be very slow. Very, very slow. Especially floating point math.

but bochs is very slow compared to qemu... winblows 95 would probably start alot faster in qemu on the gp2x

Windows 95 will never be fast on the GP2X, ever. It was not fast on a 66 MHz 486-based processor, and that's about the fastest the '2x could hope to emulate with decent speed. Without emulating an FPU.

Bochs emulates the WHOLE PC with CPU, etc..... Qemu sends the stuff to the Host System's CPU and thats it. You will NEVER be able to use Windows 95 in a usable speed on GP2X, because you can't send X86 Stuff to a ARM CPU. You need Bochs to let it do something. So forget it.

It was usable, and it really depended on your memory and what memory hog applications you let run or ran in the background.

My 66mhz 486 didn't have 64mb of ram, I dreamed of that much ram.

But I think the pint of emulating win95 is just for the thrill, and partly to show up the psp scene, it happened a lot more quickly than it did in the psp scene, and it goes faster too ;)

I used to run win95 on a 66mhz 486 i only had like 24mb ram sumin stupid like that

I used to download anime on 33k dial up and watch it, it was the computer i first watched matrix on aswell :D

I've got 98 Lite from LitePc it can cut down 98 to around 50mb boots up on my pentium 4 laptop almost instanstaneously

the specs on the site say itll take 19 secs on k6-400 with 32mb ram

you reckon i could shave some time off that six and a half bootup time?

Hmm? How does Qemu run on PPC then?

The PPC processors it runs on are much more powerful and don't lack an FPU? Same problem with porting Doom 3 to ARM. :p

Well then why not a (working) port of dosbox?
