Linking Two Gp2xs Together


actualy the whole product has to be scrapped. My three headed code monkeys just tied me to a chair and left with all your money. I can't move and am unable to produce any more of my magnificent GP2X-Link(tm). I am typing this text with my nose.

the monkeys went on strike cause I said "I don't care, make it work" after they told me my prototype is very unlikely to work due the the USB connection on the side being slave only. One of the linked GP2X would need to use USB host from the ext port instead, but I didn't want that, because those connectors are hard to get. So, everyone who sent me the money already will receive a mouth painted picture instead.

Alright, enough of any potential lawsuits that may occur... Anyway, if it can be implemented in software, then all you'd need to do is access USB host through the ext. port and run it into a hub that another GP2X is connected to...You should be able to transfer files this way...and link the two...I guess...
 
You'd think that, but there aren't many applications at all that supported the GP32 RF-Link.

All I really want is SNES multiplayer support :p That would rock to play multiplayer SNES with my bro. wherever we r.

His idea is actually quite sound, lock the clocks over the LAN or a link cable, send button presses for the pads over the link, the emulator plugs in the data for the correct controller, sounds good.

Too bad you need a friend with a GP2X (or 2 GP2X's), I don't have any friends as nerdy as I am about this kind of stuff :(.

Another thing that might be fun is on-the-fly changing of your controller, switch both to controller one and play the same character :).

About TV-Out, you could play multi-player on one screen just fine, all you would need is USB pad support and one of these: http://www.retrousb.com/

Or if you want to play against your kid set him in your lap and both play on the GP2X screen, :) bond with your kid the way nerds do, by video games :D.

As far as on the topic stuff, it is entirely possible to code for TCP/IP if anyone wants too, or simply through the serial port on the GP2X would be much simpler, but that would be much harder.

To get everybody off on the right foot we could have an open-source coding competition for multi-player code, Pong and Tank clones running over the Net or Serial (or both), just to iron out how to make it work.

Thats the spirit ^_^ Now all we need is some1 to build a cable :p

Hang on the networking idea sounds good, but does that mean that you're running two emulators at once, it could make an awful lot of difference if one was running at a slightly different speed.
Surely you could run just one emulator and transfer both the input and output from it?

Of couse I'm not even mentioning the possibility of clustering units to get better emulation.

Like I said, the clocks sync over the link cable, the emulation will be as slow as whichever is the slowest when the clocks sync.

But if you need to put 320x240 video over a link cable I think you will be sorely disappointed, it is USB 1.1 and UART, not enough bandwidth.

The "Netplay" idea means all you need is a sync and controller input and output, say up/dwn/lft/rght, and the 4 or 5 buttons on a Sega coming in and going out, very small packets.

On the other hand your Idea brings up an interesting thought, we have TV-Out, that means we could make or buy another controller with a screen in it and then hook it up to the EXT, thus we would have two players on one GP2X with different things on each screen, I don't know if that is possible, but I think the MMSP2-based DVD players are using an LCD as their front panel display and it isn't playing the movie, it is showing something different.

I guess this idea is for having a battleship kind of game and then one person plays on a TV, where the other guy can't see the screen.
