Hi, I have a first edition model and have bought a multi charger but although it does power up the machine once I try to play a game it just seems to lose all power, as if Im on dying batteries. Its set on 3v with - on the tip at 300ma. I also tried a similar unit at 1200ma but it also failed the same way.

I cant get the original version so was hoping a multi charger would do, can anyone advise?

thanks

"thunder... nah nah nahnahnah nananana... thunder... you've been... thunderstruck... " sorry... I am an idiot.

My psu outputs 3.3V at 300mA... maybe be you need higher voltage.

3 volt
~1000 mA/ 1 Amp
Centre negative polarity

So as Im electricly challenged, does this mean my 3v 300ma & 1200ma is to low & high and I need to find one around 3.3v + 600ma for it to work properly?

Do these multi charger units not vary what they output depending on the source, to me that would be the obvious thing to do but Im no expert.

A PSU can't have a current rating that's too high.
The current rating specifies how much current the load can safely draw without the PSU voltage fluctuating below its spec. If the GP2x demands 1A (1000mA) you need a supply rated for at least 1A, and if its a decent PSU the voltage will remain stable at 3V for any amount of current drawn up to 1A. In reality cheap PSUs may exhibit some voltage fluctuation for high drains close to their limit.

What reeced is saying is true - if the gp2x draws a whole amp constantly then 2500mAh batts would only last 2.5 hours - so maybe most of the time gp2x only needs about 600mA. However the amount of current drawn isn't necessaarily going to be constant (not sure if this is the case with gp2x). As an extreme example it might draw an amp for half an hour and then 500mA for 4 hours - which would drain a 2500mAh battery in 4.5 hours - and a PSU rated at 1A would still be required for the half hour when it's drawing an amp.

But even if the gp2x does need only 600mA, any PSU rated for greater current than this would still work, as explained above.
