GP2X Office On Gp2x

That's the most ridiculous thing I've read at these forums. Congratulations :)

i was thinking about this the other

was only think along the lines of powerpoint would make presentations so much easier if you could utilize the tvout

EDIT: its looks like you might be able to using qtopia no tvout though

How is this a ridiculous post? if its possible to hook any USB device to the gp2x via a hub, why couldn’t you hook a small USB keyboard like an Ipaq and use openoffice.

You couldn't use OpenOffice but you could possibly use something like AbiWord. I don't think it is a silly idea at all. The GP2X has the potential to act as a complete (though very small) desktop machine if you can hook up a keyboard and mouse via USB, possibly with a printer and then install a word processor, spread sheet and web browser / email. If I can get the resolution higher via TV-out in the X server at some point, it would do quite nicely. Plus it has the advantage of being portable and fairly cheap (as well as all the games already available for it).

I think that all this will be possible if not by the end of this year, certainly fairly early next (though I can't promise anything).

I can think of one good use, putting faqs on to the gp2x. That way if you were in the middle of a game and about to go away on holiday you could take the FAQ with just incase you get stuck.

I think it would be a good idea for veiwing docs.

viewing docs is possible already though. There is the awesome textviewer utility, and on qtopia there is a bunch of tools aswell...

what about that hancom viewer its on the zaurus and it runs on qtopia

soo we have qtopia not sure about the memory restrictions

put a post in the qtopia thread to learn more

That'd actually be pretty nifty if you could work on a report or something while on the go via your gp2x and a roll up keyboard.

yeah it sounds good and if you could just connect to the internet via a modem with out a computer so you could be total protable if thats not allready avaliable

This is a VERY encouraging post. :D as me and a friend are also looking for a replacement to a Ipaq. he bought the GP2x in hopes this would be developed more.

Yeah, as silly as it sounds to some people, I would love more desktop functionality on my GP2X. I haven't got mine, yet, but Qtopia will be one of the first things I put on it. I'm hoping for keyboard, mouse, and wifi support in the future, too. :D

If I've missed these, it'd be great for someone to point me in the right direction, but I'd really be interested in two office-type things: Address Book and Calendar

I'm not interested in updating them on the go, merely having them available for reference.
Ideally, the calendar would be able to take any number of iCal files so that applications like Sunbird can be used to export their data to the removal drive and update the GP2X. (No more missed anniversaries! :D )

Not sure if there is an open standard for address books, but it only really needs to work in a similar way. Basic search and reading wouldn't be too difficult on the GP2X.

I only got mine a week ago, so I'm still in the initial novelty stage of overloading it with all my old games; but I may get around to trying out the SDK and knocking an ugly solution together as a little trial.
