Ok, it is obvious that some really large roms (ie: 80mb Metal Slug 3..etc) just will not run on the unit, but what IS the largest rom that WILL run? Has anyone constructed a clrmame.dat of all known working sets?

gngeo can support large rom with a gfx file that is generated using dumpgfx just look at the wiki

I can run all metal slug games up to Metal Slug 5 with GnGeo.

Just load the ROM and dump the Gfx when it prompts you to. Just make sure you have alot of space on the card as there is no message if you run out of room, it just won't work.

Set the sound to 11025 and most games will run great.

That's the thing. I can run roms under 20mb. But when I get to the larger games (ie" MS3..MS5) the emulator does not even give me the chance to dump the gfx. It just completely backs out of the emulator to the main GP2X screen when I select those roms.

Are you running the newest official version version of GnGeo (6.x) not the encrypted hacked version? I heard the encryption hacked version has some bugs. Maybe the ROMs aren't the right version and/or you don't have the right BIOS, or missing BIOS ROMs (there is more than one). The dumping to menu sounds like a BIOS issue, not RAM.

I am using the latest Mame (v0.106) Neo Geo BIOS, as well as Metal Slug 5 from the latest Mame...hmm

Do you have all the different bios from each region etc? There should be quite a few files. Make sure all bios roms are unzipped and in the dir with the game roms. Game roms can be zipped. Also try Unibios 2.x and load it through Rage2X with it set to unibios.

You should at least get to the screen with the blue bars going across. It will then say "converting tiles" and then ask if you want to dump the graphics (if you haven't already). After that it will dump to the menu, you can then play the game.

It will work and convert the graphic roms with Metal Slug and a few others I have tried. Not the larger roms however. I have all of the roms unzipped of course as per the readme. My GP2X just does not seem to like the larger roms no matter what. Maybe I should be testing another dump of Metal Slug 5 other than the official Mame version??

Newer roms are often crypted. You need to get a decrypted romset to get it to work under gngeo.

Ahh, this may be the reason then. I'll test some others and see what happens.
