but i seriously doubt that Sony themselves didn't expect this to happen when they created the ads.
No doubt in my mind about it. There is no such thing as an honest mistake in business world.

I cannnot believe this people are saying that the ads are not racist.

It is ridiculous to claim the colour of the person's skins is only relevant if you make it relevant. The fact is that Sony purposefully chose the models because of their skin colour- They made it an issue.

The ad portrays the white model in a dominant pose coming to take over from the black model. ie- White PSP is here- why bother with black? If you don't agree with this then why juxtapose the models?- Why not focus on the arrival of the white PSP with no mention of the black PSP?

If you genuinely believe that Sony had no intention of provoking this sort of controversy, you must be very naive. The fact that we are all talking about it has done it's job- I wouldnt have even known about there being a white PSP if this controversy hadnt arisen. Sony can also get even more publicity by pulling the ads, claiming ignorance and agologizing thus restricting any possible PR damage.

They have succeeded.

@LHC- yeah great, so they took more than one photo. They still chose to use this one.

If any of you really believe Sony was totally totally oblivious to the controversy that choosing to use that particular photo would cause, and in using skin colour to sell a product would cause in general, you must be deluded. DCM need not apply.

The ad was designed to be controversial. They achieved their goal, Sony apologised, withdrew them and got loads of free publicity.

Do you have any evidence that they didn't use the others? The original link only reported on the 'racist' ad, because the others weren't relevant to the anti-Sony sentiment.

They knew they were manufacturing controversy.

They probably only took the other photos to make their pleading ignorance more convincing after creating free publicity.

It worked. After all, here we all are.
