 I've never played 8bit games like the atari, pc engine (8bit?) etc... i didn't like the NES that much, but i never really had any good games. Can anyone explain some of these older consoles, i wasn't exactly around when they were. Also, can anyone name some good zelda/final fantasy type games for the older systems?

well i wasnt around during this era (im only 13) and i would like to know more about the pcengine atari etc. also. but i do know quite a bit about the nes and i'll recomend these titles:

River City Ransom
teenage mutant ninja turtles 3
dig dug
excite bike
kid icarus
prince of persia
splatter house

just to name some of the not so well known ones. there are alot more great games for NES that i didnt mention. you should try as many as you can because even though the title may make the game may seem lame (i.e. tmnt3, dig dug) the games can still be extremely fun.

cheers

atari kicks MAAAJOR butt, i'm 14 i got an atari when i was 8-9 at a garage sale with 40ish games for 1$ :D

PC Engine is 8-bit, yes, but the graphics look 16-bit, so you'd probably never know the difference.

BTW, the Gameboy Color is also an 8-bit system (which is emulated well on GP32).

Good games include:

RPGs:

Zelda (all of 'em)
Dragon Warrior I&II
Dragon Warrior III
Pokemon (all of 'em... if you haven't played it yet...)

Platform:

Super Mario Land (I and II)
Super Wario (all of them)
Rayman
Donkey Kong Country

Puzzle:

Pop-Up (little-known, but very fun maze-like game)
Tetris Deluxe

Racing:

Whacky Wheels

The Zelda 1-Clone for the SMS:
Golden Axe Warrior

Other good RPGs (SMS and GameGear):
Golvellius (don't let the side-scroll beginning fool you!)
Y's
Defenders of Oasis (FF-like)

For NES:
Battle of Olympus (Side-Scroll)
Guardian Legend (yes, it IS an RPG. It just has some shooter-Levels ;))
Gargoyle's Quest 2
Willow
Castlevania 2
Crystalis
Earth Bound Zero (a MUST-PLAY!)
Faxanadu
Star Tropics 1 & 2

For GameBoy:
Gargoyle's Quest
Legend of the River King 1&2 (well, sort-of RPG)

Well, I'm SURE I forgot a whole bunch... but that's a first start :)

There's a pinned post of nes and snes games on www.gp32emu.com emulation forum. Quite a nice list.

Great EvilDragon, I didn't know about those games on sms/GG, well exept Y's thanks. There is also phantasy star gaiden and adventure on those consoles. and phantasy star on sms.

And don't forget the real FF2 and FF3 translated on nes.

Of course there are many many others.

Sorry, i went to go see teh northern lights at my house when i posted this and then i went to sleep and then school the next day :D  Anyway, thanx alot for the list. When i got dragon warrior III for gbc i could NOT stop playing it, it was soo good. I love enix and squaresoft.

Try using FRODO - It emulates the C64, which is the worlds best selling home computer. There is some classic C64 games out there - Have a look at www.lemon64.com - Its the essential site for info on C64 games (There are NO download games there!).

If you need any further help on C64, pm me!

PC ENGINE.. This was almost a myth.. never saw it when i was at school (26 now) but used to hear about it. Had awesome games and was around the time of the SNES/MEGADRIVE era.. but only in JAP/USA and VERY expensive...

Many years later playing on the GP32... this machine ROCKS... i mean it may have been a 8bit machine but the graphics blow most of the titles on the Genesis/SNES way out...!

Only need a save state now..!

Shah

wait, no save states? AHHHHH!!!! well, its not that bad, considering most games are arcade style plane shooters lol

Your right but can you play non-stop .... After 1 hour, my neck starts to strain.. and it pains for 3 days..1 LOL

ASlo sometime the battery kick out.. and GP32 resets itself..!
