Hello :)

can somebody help me by giving me some "already working fine" Virtual Dub settings files (some .vcf) ???
I admit I have near no knowledges of video compression, but I read many faq/guides about how to make some files for my little GP32, but unfortunatly even following step by step the things I failed in it.... oh I success to encode it, but let me explain you my problem.... At the begining the file on my hard drive is about 30 Mb , DivX, and poor quality (it's normal lol) ... and after I use VD with the GP32 settings then it become more than 70 Mb even if the quality is in reality even more poor!!! I were thinking that as my original is in super bad quality (with poor audio), I could get a much smaller file for the GP32.... so if somebody can help me by creating a "poorsettings_for_small_small_files_under_VD" then it would be so perfect :)

By the way maybe it would be extremly great for those who are master in Virtual Dub settings management to help the guy like me by creating 2 or 3 of these settings ... One to convert a DVD into GP32 file, one for some Mpeg to GP32 avi & a fird one for some DivX to GP32 file.... with maybe each time one or 2 quality settings (high which would fit in 128 Mb SMC / low which would be able to fit in a 32 Mb SMC ....) .... at less it would open to everyone the door of movies on GP32 :)

thanks anyway :)

i can sort you some setting out if u still need em...

Firstly though, what sort of movie are you encoding ie: matrix (high action) or phonebooth (low action) or anime (cartoons)????

Secondly, what sort of file size would you like?????
I have a 64mb card and usually encode a dvd to 2 parts 40-50mb each (excellent quality) if its a jap film or another language I could make settings to fit the whole movie on 1 64mb card but you will lose the sound quality (not too bad on a foreign film though)

1 more, (sorry but it will help me make the vcf you exactly want)

Do you need the settings to covert from a avi, like a 700mb vcd film???

Or do you need the settings and all the other info for ripping and preparing vdub for a dvd conversion. Either one is no problem but be warned unless you have a fairly quick pc it will take long. It takes about an hour, 1.5 tops to rip, encode and transfer to gp32 on a 2.2 gig p4 with 256mb ram...

The sooner you post the details the sooner I'll havae the vcf done. post your email so i can send you the .vcf

hi, is it possible to host the settings files somewhere? I'd love to try them out too and I'm sure others would find them useful.

if this can't be done could you please copy me in with the config files (frolikATgezpage.com)

thanks man :)

folik m8, thats no problem I will add you to the list. What sort of settings would you like though???

AS, I posted above I can make them to your needs which is much better

let me know what you want and I'll have it doen by the end of today

post your requests with mailing addresses and I'll sort em today

also, im unsure how to add them to the site, i guess a mod has that [power (Im just a lowly gp monkey) lol

hey dozer and all the other guys who would like some vcf files...

PLEASE READ!!!

I have NO problem making some personal settings for all you guys,,, BUT, it is better if you tell me as much details about how and what your encoding. This way you will get the best settings I am capable of...

Otherwise, I could send you a .VCF I used for a low quality manga, you use it for matrix and it looks shite...

So if you give me:

Original file size
Format ie: Rippin from dvd, straight avi or mpg conversion
A rough size you would like bearing in mind i use a 64mb card and use 40-50mb parts 2 per film, otherscan be done

Basically as much info as possible for you personal settings

C3

Post details soon and I will try after lunch, first come first serve Lol

Hey thanks a lot, I didn't want to be too demanding so didn't leave details, but here's the things I'm trying to encode:

Simpsons/futurama: I've managed to get these down to 20mb but the quality isn't that great. I think these are 10minutes long... I have these as mpg or avi files.

Anime: 25min episodes with subtitles, currently avi format (various codecs)

kung fu: average film length (not sure exact-sorry), subtitled, currently avi format (various codecs)

I have a 128Mb SMC reserved for videos so it would be great to use the full capacity for movies, or to squeeze as many anime/cartoon episodes onto the one card.

One question; do the vcf files work on all versions of VDub or do we need to use the same one as you are?

thanks loads for this- very helpful. Would be great to compile a selection of these files, maybe one of the mods will help out.

cheers

frolik.

I asked a while ago if someone was willing to make a site with tables of settings for different types of film. eg how to fit a 2 hour anime film with good sound or a high action film with average sound etc. Maybe you could do this? i woudl but my pc is so slow it would take an age to experiment. id like settings for a 95min high action film with average-good sound if you could pls :). thanks dude.

Thanks alot Deanollive :)
here are the kind of things I'm usually trying to encode :

- super poor / low quality avi files (divX) ... about 40 Mb for 20 Mb for 20 minutes of video ... Some "funny" things like Derrick (lol it's true , but with voice changed ;op so it make it million times more funny) ... so no special effects / low action... the objective is to make such files as small as possible keeping the crappy quality ;p (I failed coz I get a file 2 time bigger !!)

- Some action/Kung Fu fighting movies (Jacky Chan / Jet Li movies...) in DivX (which fit on 1 cd usually...) which would fit in my 128 Mb SMC

- Some various VCD movies (not really action but with subtitles & voice not important) which would fit (if possible) on my 64 Mb SMC :)

- Some Music Clip / files of maximum 60 Mb in WMA or DivX (so one with great song / one with not important sound) which would fit in less than the original one ;p
(I would adore many music clip on one SMC :p)

I hope it's enough detail, if not ask me more :)

I'm not yet encoding directly the DVD for 2 main reasons : I got more VCD & I got a small Duron which is not the fastest beast to make such work LOL ;p

and really thank you million times for helping me :)

oh and my mail is tida_AT_laposte.net

thanks thanks thanks :)

Right I have just started but my source file was screwed! (Time to rip another)

Here are the email addresses i have so far please ammend if they are wrong

tida_At_laposte.net
Frolik_At_gezpage.com

Im have some settings for phonebooth (Quite slow paced movie, well its in a phonebooth) this came in at 2 parts with a 90mb total, the sound was superb and in perfect sync. These settings are best used with slow paced movies ripped from dvd...

Working on an anime setting now,

With any luck I should have them off to you by the end of the day

To Tidus and the two other guys after .Vcf files

I have a nice .VCF for your anime episodes done now

I also have a .VCF for TV episodes ie: Shield, 24, X-files, star trek etc

I havent checked the anime VCF but Im sure its ace as I always encode anime as crisp as possible.

The TV episode .VCF has been checked and runs nicely with great sound. This .VCF is best used with your dvd2avi projects when ripping from DVD. It should make a 800mb file fit on a 64mb smc (with roms), just chop the credits if not..

Im currently trying to make another .VCF for your large action packed movies. Check back for updates soon

P.S I will post them out to you when i have another 1 done at least.

Also these are for Moviepark, (I dont use gpcinema as you lose some support) they might work but thats someone elses area?

Hope these files can help guys

yeah thats really good of you to do this for us. I take it you've spent a lot of time tweaking virtualdub to get to that level of encoding.... I've been trying to suss it out for a while now and the results seem to vary drastically so having a look at your vcf's will hopefully answer a few questions I have.

one question, do you use XVid or DivX412? & which version of the codec should we use

look forward to your mail (in your own time of course)

:D

Folik and Tidus:

Your mailing addresses appear to be wrong, I'm gathering the "AT" refers to a @

If so then what about the underscores..

PM the exact address so I can just paste it to my mail

Dozer your Vcfs will be with you soon my man

I use the 4.12 divx codec at the moment but have heard some good things about xvid. So i will take a llok at it soon...

My encodes can vary to frolik, when I first started I too didnt have a clue but when someone gave me a .VCF it explained it much better

So, I hoping that after I give you the .vcf you will understand what varibles effect what. If not then I'll keep helping you till you can encode better than me, then I'll be asking for the favours lol

Speak soon
