The GP32 comes with a usb right? (dont have mine yet) So i was wondering if you can transfer files over the usb or do you need the SMC card?

Its the smc card that stores the programs on it, the usb transfers the programs to the smc, the gp32 itself has no internal memory that you can store stuff on. So basically its useless without the smc, you can write the files through the gp32 but my advice is get a card reader as it has much higher data transfer speeds.

Umm, if your in the UK then ebuyer is the place to go, it sells 128Mb for £20. They also have warehouses in the US but i dont know if there price is good in the US market. I owuldnt go for anything lower than 128Mb, and card reader/writers you can also get from ebuyer, i think there about £10 or something, i seem to remember there doing a special offer if u buy an SMC with a R/W

The cheapest place in the UK to get SMCs individually is www.pricestorm.com, who have 128MB for £17.99 including delivery.

Well my friend told me it isnt required to get a SMC but he said it would be best to get one plus I dont live in the U.K

Well u could always not get an smc, but only if youd enjoy looking at your gp32 and turning it off and on, boy that sounds like fun.

Your friend is correct (and bringoutthegimp is a spaz). If your gp32 has multifw2 (gbax are installing this these days), then you can use some software (GpRun) to directly execute an app (if you don't have multifw2 then you're stuck as you need darkfaders pc-link).

However -

1. GpRun only supports gxb files, and most files are fxe, so you will need to convert them first (easy to do).
2. The app will only remain in memory while the gp32 is turned on (it isn't stored, it's only executed).
3. Many apps require other files on the smc (eg emulators need the roms), so these apps won't do much without an smc.

So yes, you can use the gp32 without an smc, but it's very limiting and not really recommended.
