I just took out my GP32 this morning and tried tuning it on, but absolutely nothing happened! I switched it with two new pairs of batteries and it changed nothing! Then I went int my room and plugged it into my adapter (specifically chosen for the GP32 buy a guy at radioshack, negative polarity and whaterver) and it worked fine! It seems that it just doesnt seem to work with batteries anymore! argh... I looked inside the battery case and it seems to be missing a coil on the upper left side (the (+) sign on the upper battery space). Or was there never supposed to b a coil there in the first place? ack somebody help me :(

:/ it's most likely some part missing from the battery case, or a contact problem. can someone who has a digital camera take a clear close-up shot of the battery case so he can check if anything's missing?

This problem has been mentioned before, and iirc the problem was the power connector that was the problem, since it's supposed to disconnect the batteries when external power is connected, apparently that small switch fails sometimes with the result that it doesn't get any power from the batteries.

dunno if thats true, but i read it in a thread a while ago.

The upper left battery spot has no spring on my gp... was there ever a spring there? BTW this picture is from Lik-Sang, not my own GP32, I dont have a digital camera

but there still is a type of contact thing on the bottom right, kind of like a sping squished down. Or a coil, whatever you want tocall it. Nothing at all on the top left though, just a little hole with a metal contact in it, no coil or anything. I'm about to contact Lik-Sang

thank you diehardman

unfortunatly mine looks pretty much excatly the same. I guess I'll probably have to get it repaired... I hope they wont REPLACE it though, it was a 166mhz FLU... <_<

What your describing is caused by using a power supply and batteries at the same time, its been discussed before.

is there any way to fix it, craig? I'm used to playing my GBA with batteries in and with DC power, so I thought nothing of it when I used it like that on my GP32. Can someone link me to some threads of people with the same problem? Batteries and power at the same time, I mean?

well shit... so it's fried? and it costs $50 to get it fixed? That sucks, I'm already in debt up to my ankles just from BUYing this thing

Thats something completly different AFAIK.... He used the wrong polarity, and you turned it on w/ adpater & batts.

I'd try doing strange thigies with it like turning it on b4 plugging it in AC adaper and stuff like that to see if you can get the switch back :)

I believe it is also possible to fry it by using batteries and a PSU at the same time.

It can also be powered through the EXT port with a mobile phone charger, but since i've seen no mention of this being safe or indeed allowed i'd not recommend it.

Yep, so basically you didn't follow the instructions. That's what happens.

ps. If you were already in debt, you shouldn't be spending money on GP32s.

I'm only in debt because I had only $50 when I bought this thing, so I'm in debt $150 now. And I have no recollection of it ever being in the instructions, I read the adaptor part thoroughly. After all, I didnt want to FRY it with the wrong adapter...

well I ended up frying it another way anyway

I very much doubt that. I usually use my gp32 with an adapter, I _always_ have batteries in as well and it has not caused any damage at all. Sometimes when I go to the toilet or alike I plug out the adapter while the gp32 is on and it right away switches to batteries without turning the system off. Very handy indeed. Mayhaps he has just used a messed up adapter.
