With the news of yoyofr doing opensnes for zodiac what do u think?

I think yes. There hasn't been an update to any emulator in ages although that may be cause they're all in hard core devolopment but i doubt it. ;)

I dont know. I know that I would prefer to have a GP32 than a Zodiac anyday.

But with Ryleh, Yoyo, Skeezix all having/getting a Zodiac, the Zodiac scene should be pretty good in a few months.

However we still dont know if Ryleh and Yoyo have stopped dev on the GP32. Even if they do, they have made massive contributions and have helped make the GP32 as good as it it.

As coders leave, more arrive. We are still getting great work from people like Squidge, Emuman, Thor etc......

We do seem to be at a bit of a standstill regarding emulation though. It would be disappointing if this is as good as it gets emulation wise.

Only time will tell what happens. I am personally happy with the GP32 and its scene, and long may it survive! :)

bring on GP64!

I don't think it is. Let's put it this way: The GP32 has developers everywhere around the world, and good ones too. The Z hasn't even been released outside the US. It hasn't been released in stores yet and the commercial games suck. It has the power of killing the GP32, but it won't. Not yet. There has to be a price drop and some great developer working on it. Also, the Z has the joystick problem, the joystick will go in some direction and stay that way on the screen. A lot of Z's have been returned, replace with new ones, and even people got refunds. Thgere hasn't been a new emu for the GP32 because right now we got great emus out now at great speeds( Genesis needs a little work, but it is okay) with sound. The specs of our GP32 can't give any new emus the chance to come out. The GP32's limitations of RAM that is I think 8mb gives it limited power. In order to ge new emus out you would have to do the 32mb RAM upgrade for the Neo
-Geo. The mod for the 170mhz is good but not enough for a PS1 emu. No graphics chips slow the GP32 down. GBA is hard because there are so many chips to emualte and not a signifigant amount of people did the 32mb mod to have the inspiration for a GBA emu. Pkus, you need a good coder. The Zodiac also needs a good homebrewn development community. I almost bought a Z2. I decided to get a pocket pc (PS1 emulation he he :p ) and a GP32. I am extremely pleased with both of them. Bottom line is wait for the Z to go in stores and worldwide. The GP32 I think is great. And I think we should be happy with all our optimised emus. Hope this helps.

Hm I agree with some of the points there however the gp32 doesn't need more emus like gba that u mentioned or whatever it just needs more completed emus. Is there even one? maybe fsms is pretty close. I would keep my gp32 forever if it had perfect or really good NGpocket SNes and Genesis emulation

Lots of good NGP games
Metal slug 1 and 2
all the fighting games
Sonic
The card games
etc

Well, I have both the Zodiac and the GP32, and the Zodiac is far superior hardware wise. The analog joystick problem has been blown out of proportion. Only a very small number have the problem, and they have since discovered the problem in their production. The Zodiac has better games barring emulation, including emulation the GP32 is ahead. Emulation is not going to make or break since the graphics in most emulations are inferior on any platform. Also remember the Zodiac is a Palm device, so it has PDA functions, can play divx movies, mp3's and Ogg files, can surf the web via bluetooth, and check email. It also has dual SD slots, one with SDIO. Mine has a 512 meg card and a 1 gig card, and 128 meg of internal memory. And if you hold one in each hand the GP32 seems like a kid toy, and the Zod a more professional and powerfull device.

The GP32 is strictly gaming and entertainment, and the Zodiac is entertainment, and business capable, so I think they can coexist in different markets. The GP32 for teens and younger, (the games seem aimed at the younger crowd) and the Zodiac for the post college crowd.

Yay, emulation.

I'm personally sick of everybody wanting better emulation. What we really need is more original games for the GP32. The GP32 is not only good for running emulators. It's a great system for people who can code to develop games on. It's totally lacking in the area of original games and it's potential is just as great for original games instead of just having all the emulators on it. It's not that I don't enjoy the emulation as well, but I just wishes more efoort was put into original game development for it.

I have to agree that the GP needs more professional games, I've said it before. But because it's not a big name without millions of dollars behind it to lobby for bigger game maker's products so the only thing it can fall back on is the homebrew scene and the emulators otherwise people would just buy a GBA.

People talk about the emulators because they're soooo close to being perfect and making it the "goto" system for 8-16 bit oldschool gaming emulation on the go.

Yeah i dont think zodiac is killing the gp32 yet, later it most likely will, but by that time a whole new breed of handhelds will probably emerge.

Yeah im guessing that couple people are going to look at this thread so i was wondering what raiden is everyone playing. are they playing the one for genesis cause it seems to lag for me on 156.

Btw i hate pepsi and macintosh

I will get a new computer and then a Zodiac and tell you all about it, haven't been here in ages since I sold my gp32.

I love pepsi and macs, the smart always like the best (which is pepsi and mac for you with slower minds)

The Gen emu is slow even at 166 (apparently there are several speed versions) Raiden is playable but ist just a touch slow and theres no sound (as with all the games on genemu).

I have to say that alot of people bought the GP32 mainly FOR the emulators. Homebrew is mostly boring to me. The idea of playing all the classics on the go is what I want, especially the PC-Engine, Snes and Genesis. Without that, the GP32 isn't worth owning to me. But that's just my opinion, but I think many others share it.

Consider it shared.

Hi All!

Just wanted to say I did not stop working on OS9XGP 0.3 .
It's true that I'm working on the Z too, so it's about 50/50. Moreover bugfix &
improvements made on the Z version can be used in the gp32 version and so on...

So no, gp32 scene hasn't lost another emu coder... :p

I just want to finish adding some little features like input swapping (a la LJGP32, to enable 2 players -no simultaneous- games & zapper & mouse, ....) and
improving a little the transparency stuff...

asm cpu core is still waiting too. I really need more time ...

If you wanted the best programmers to stay with the GP32 then surely it wasnt very wise to offer a Zodiac in any of the programming competitions!

If you have a new toy to play with your going to play with it arent you?

Zodiac has excellent quality movie playback
More processing power etc etc.

But things move in cycles as soon as someone stops programming on the GP32 then someone will take their place.

I'm sure many coders will stay with the GP32 just because they enjoy the "scene" and / or enjoy coding for the underdog platform.

PS Thanks for staying with us Yoyo. It's much appreciated.
