Gba Emu

Emmulators have never been deemed illegal, even when bleem! was being developed and Sony was going to court over it they had no choice but to litterally BUY bleem! out right and kill it themselves.

Just downloaded the emu, looks pretty interesting so far... I wanna see how it runs commercial games though, Like say......Super mario advance, or anything else under 8 MB. (Does the rom converter that comes with it actually DO anything? I can't tell)

Actually Alpha, Sony didnt buy Bleem!, they did however buyCVGS (Connectix Virtual Game Station, another great PSX emulator) and shut it down (that might have been what you were thinking of). For Bleem! they just took them to court (and lost everytime) over and over and over again until Bleem! went bankrupt from the legal fees (nasty tactic but sony had the money to waste). Alot of us tried to donate to help Bleem! fight sony (because they won everytime) but in the end it wasnt enough. A sad day in emulation history. But that didnt stop many other programmers from making great PSX emus like ePSXe :) Nintendo, Sony and Sega have been fighting the emulation scene for years, and occasionally they will a small battle (one way or another) like this recent issue, but in the end, we _always_ win the war.

I'm thinking this thread and anything related should be deleted ASAP.

Although the whole Nintendo thing came about because someone working on the gbaZ emulator told them about it (had a rift with other programmers at CrimsonFire).

The Zodiac (or more correctly Palm OS) is a huge platform compared to the GP32 let's just hope that in this case being a small hard to find handheld is a bonus.

I reckon we should start calling the GBA emulator "The Project" and delete this thread starting a new one about "The Project" We can PM any of the community that ask what "The Project is" and ask them to keep the Big N and GBA out of any posts.

LOL. All a bit James Bond really.

BTW Those "Project" ;) demos rock. They are sooooo fast.

I like it! I have never felt like Roger Moore as much as now! :D

Why do people buy a zodiac? Well for most its the emulators, of course.

Now, if you were a big name company and some new game system was marching on your turf, what could you legally do to limit their audiance and keep yours? Kill the emulators! Thats what most people want the system for, legally get rid of that, and what is the zodiac but a fast overpriced palmpilot.
No one gets a zodiac for its commercial games (although a few are nice), they get it for 3rd party development, NAMELY emulators. A 3rd party scene without emulators isnt worth a $400 price tag. (they will still, hopefully, have snes, nes, genesis, etc..., so its not THAT bad)

I think its a very very devious tactic, get rid of GB/GBC/GBA Emulation and at the same time give your competition a kick in the balls.

I think the GP32 is pretty safe because of its small userbase.

Hear hear to the Project, hear hear. I doubt its necessary, though.

The question is, what would ENF65 do if he *were* approached by Ninty? I suspect he'd close it, just because no-one's got the monetary might to take on such a giant.

And even if he DID fight them, I suspect that'd take away a LOT of the time he'd have to code the thing, so either way they'd win :(( - not good.

<aaarggghhhh>

Well I guess we all knew this was too good to be true anyway....;-(

Well it is an american patent so it is restricted to the american market obviously. One thing to note is that it was actually a fellow in the Zodiac community who sent in the details regarding the emulator to Nintendo. I think he is a prime example of how "great" the Zodiac community is. Of course, Nintendo has little to lose by sending an email with a few threats asking it to be stopped. I kinda agree with Nintendo though, since it was an expensive commercial emulator.

I feel like I've got a Netsky.Nintendo coming on... :p

(If TruSecure are reading this, (they scan all forums these days) thats a joke. I wouldnt do that, nor put anyone up to doing that).

I think nothing will happen...
they sold the emu.. and thats because it was shut down, but you cant do anything against freeware/opensource emus.. just look how many well known Emus are out there.. and nintendo couldnt do anything against this.
i dont think that this will happen to this emu.
And i hope enf65 works on like before.

im pretty sure the zodiac will be dead soon.... only if they do it like in the xbox scene (nearly EVERY emulator for it is illegal due to the xdk which is used very often, is illegal) and share the emus via IRC, newsgroups or p2p (well, p2p sucks, its hell dangerous).
and they have to stop selling emus.

anyway, i hope enf65 continues his work.
as it wont be selled and we maybe never can load roms >4mb (or we will never have sound), nintendo might not do much against this.

they didnt do anything against VBA....
why should the do something against a emu for a unknown handheld?
which can only play 1/4 of all GBA games, without further modification of the system.
Just dont sell EMUs... and there will be no problem.

With VBA, you have to play it on a PC which is not portable. When emulated for a handheld, people can buy it instead of the GBA.

well, what does who think will add to it next?
what mode do they have to add before some commercial games will be surported?
would mode 7 be an easy one to add?
o well, hope he keeps workin on " IT "
