Hey guys, seeing as how my Pc-link doesn't work at all I'm on my last legs here.

Is there any way to format your card, and install free-launcher and movie park with just a SMC writer?

unfortunately ..no...you definitely need Pc link to format and download free launcher and install all zpk's. BUT once those are complete you can use your smc writer to download other things like movies, mp3's roms, emus anything that doesn't need to be unpacked and installed.

Did you try pc link 1.3?? or perhaps 1.2?? Whats wrong with your pc link....give specifics please

I saw your post on JoyGP.....did you install all the correct drivers for the GP32 and your PC (i.e Win95, Win98, ME, XP..drivers etc.) What exactly does your error message say? And what steps have you taken...I think I can help. DOn't give up yet...

Thanks for the help TJF, every post I make you're always there with words of encouragement..

Anyways long story short..
Windows OS is XP
Pc-link recognizes on my GP32 but when formatting it only installst eh game folder and when installing the MP3 folder it just stops and this error pops up

"an error occurred in GP32 during process"

Now i've tried version 1.2, 1.3 and the hacked 1.2 version of Pc-link and it just doesn't work. I'ev also used the default drivers from gamepark and the XP specific drivers from Phox and firefly (I think) and still no luck.

Now that I've just bought a SMC writer I've just made the 5 specific folders on the card manually ( GAME, MP3, GPMM, GPSYS, GPETC ) and then went to the PC-Link and I was able to install both freee loader and moviepark. But if I try to add anything else with the PC-Link the same error occurs, so I take it back to the SMC writer and just copy avi files to GPETC ( someone told me that the moviepark files go here) and I tried the PCengine Emulater and placed it in GPMM.

Now after I turn on my gp32 and I go to game I can either select movie park or free launcher but if I select either of them, the gamepark just shows the loading screen for about 3 minutes then it stops. Oh yeah and NO MP3's work this way either. And there you have it...

Oh also the english on my gamepark is totally scsrewed up. For example if I turn the Gamepark on without a SMC it'll say SOC instead of SMC, and e's are also replaced with g's ( help = hglp on my screen). I have no idea what the hell is going on, but I think its my console. I've tried contacting Play-asia ( where I bought it ) But they haven't emailed me back a reponse and I've heard that they are quite prompt. so I'm a little worried.

Thanks in advance

Sorry if this is a little hard to read but I've been up for an exuberant amount of time, so please try to ignore the sentence fragments and run on sentences as best you can.

Sure hope you can help me.....

If it's any help, I'm sure someone could format the SMC for you. If you are in the UK, I would be happy to do it. Don't know if it would fix all of your problems and is far from ideal but the offers there.

It does seem like your GP32 is goofy, I would definately look into replacing it, if Play-Asia ever get back to you.

Actually the problem is his SMC card. I had the same problem. Some brands of SMC don't work. I got a 128 meg Kingston brand SMC card and it fixed the problem.

It may just be the SMC but as he also complains of the text being screwed which I believe in from the flash bios not the SMC then I am more inclined to believe it may well be the GP32 that's faulty, but if he's gets another SMC and tests it first, then cool, if that does not work, the unit will probably have to go back.

MrT

I don't think its the SMC card, I've already used 2 different trypes and they both have the same errors, I've also used a sandisk one, which from these forums lead me to believe that they are compatible with the gamepark.

So I take it that the weird lettering is not normal on everyones Gameparks. I gotta say it looks mighty weird, but if it does work I'd be perfectly fine with it. I love in Edmonton Canada, so I doubt anyone lives near enough for me to go and get it formatted from them. And even if I could don't I need to install free launcher and Moviepark with my own machine anyways?

So I guess I'm just hoping play asia responds now

well I know your having Major problems witht eh Gp32...in regards to the screwy letters and messed up english.....You got me! I have not have that problem.... as of yet.

I wish I knew more. AND I wish I could help. It actually pains me to see some GP32 users struggle with console. I admit I had problems, major ones when I first started installing everything to the GP32. BUT most of those problems was because I was impatient and a complete moron. (Simple stupid mistakes..ya know??)
So anyway....I worked out those problems with the help of all you fine GPer's out there.
Melloyellowfellow...for the first time. I have to admit once more... I am stuck on your problem. Usually there is some signs to distinguish between certain problems, yours has signs ....just ones I have never seen before. I would have to agree with the rest of the community who have replied to your plee for help that, unfotunately you may need to send for a replacement GP32.
In the mean time, I would like to continue to try and work out what is going on with your GP. I have a second Gp32 I am doing various BIOS tests on now to see where your error came up.
Please don't expect any good news from what my findings are, because honestly.....like I said before.....I am clueless. I ll try though. Sorry :(

You can install Free Launcher via the SMC writer using GP32 Package Extractor. Point it at a .zpk and choose Extract. Give it a path and it will extract the files. In Free Launchers case, it creates a Game directory with a gp_launc.gxe and a gp_launc directory. Copy the .gxe and the directory into the Game directory on your SMC and it should work. (It did for me!)

Obviously doesn't help with the formatting problem though.

Hey guys thanks for all your help..

In the end I just returned the "defective" device and am now awaiting a new one. I really hope that this is a GP32 problem and I won't be having anymore problems with this. On a bit of a downer though, I'll be leaving on vacation for a couple days, and going without this console will not be what I had planned in the short term when I ordered it..

Anyways thanks again, I really appreciate the help guys
