i think skeezix has done the emu community proud! the development of the ST emu has been good fun, seeing it progress from a slow desktop display to running games nice and smooth - i wish all developers worked this way - and this fast!!!!

And as grateful as i am (and i think im safe to say everyone else) i would LOVE to see a genesis emulator on the GP. I believe there is one in the works - but where? the odd screen shot and rumer doesnt exactly quench our thirst.
you seem to have a lot of skill and i love the way you involve everyone in your projects.

SO WHATDAYA SAY? THIS IS A PUBLIC REQUEST FOR SKEEZIX TO BUILD A GENESIS EMULATOR . . . . . . please : )

cheers
Gary

yeh well zardoz is. butttttttt skeezix posts here daily! DAILY!

I will leave that up to Skeezix to decide if/what he wants to do next.

I know the old boy has an affection for the ST (me too fortunately) and he may not be interested in doing one.

Personally I would love a Megadrive emulator but the developer/porter has to want to do it.

the thing to remember here is that Skeezix has only ported an existing emulator (CastCE, CaSTaway) which was targetted at a similar system to the GP32 (ARM based PocketPC) so the work involved was reduced.

I'm not taking anything away from Jeff when I say this - he even says it in the readme! ;) it's a far cry from writting an emualtor from scratch...

So, if there is a similarly easily portable Genesis/Megadrive emu for PocketPC with well written GPL source there might be more interest.

Skeezix is a top guy but I can't help thinking that, if he were to start a Genesis emu, his work might be redundant.

We have:

ZardozJones' emulator (scratch?)
fGen32 (Masterlator)
ZSNES port (ZSNES asm conversion)

Three already, spoilt for choice :)

Thanks for the votes of confidence everyone :) Really, I'm a very experienced pro developer for a living, so I am pretty good at thigns; but one of the things I am best at is cultivating communities and keeping peopel energized, as you know. The otehr coders are no less talented, but they chose to be more quiet about what they do. Thats okay. I am proud to have whippe dup a frenzy the last few weeks though :)

*g* Not to brag, but I've also done more emu's from scratch than most ;) XCade is one of the first arcade emus ever (1994 or 1995; check my FAQ online); I've also written a ZMachine system form scratch, a vic 20 emu from scratch, and worked on NES emulation. I've got about 40 or 60 separate arcade emulations under my belt to date ;) So in fact, I have been there, done that ;)

But you and everyone are also right... I have too much on the go already (that are falling behind because of my ST obsessions :). I might release a STonX too, since I also ported that, but I'm more fond of Castaway right now ;) I have to work on my commercial version of XCade (for Palm OS), and work on some Mac OSX commercial products I sell.. these guys pay for my house after all ;)

As to Genesis.. it'd be a waste of time unless the other 3 or 4 are canned. It would be very wasteful of tiem to do it "again", exxcept for the pure fun sake, and Genesis wasn't my thing.. so it woudl be fun in the way all coding is fun, but I woudlnt' give it the commitment it woudl get form someone who really loved the machine, or who had a lot more free time :)

So I can't do it all, for lack of time. But wehen I do somethign, I tend to "do the hell out of it", since I reall love wehat I do, and I have the luxury to do what I love :)

I *have* thought about working on DOSBox (an old PC emulation), but Iv'e also told a few other folks to do it, who were looking for projects, and I'd rather they got some fun and spotlight rather than a few of us trying to hog it all ;)

I'd like to see skeezix take on the big chalenge...an Amiga emulator!
Would be a big challenge involving lots of ASM, and who knows if the GP could do it? I know fellow managed on a P75, so there is a chance...
Actually a friend who works at the same game company as me was going to try coding it. (he used to program the acorn archimedes in ARM assembler) but he's just been made redundant :( I guess he'll have more worries than buying a GP. We were also going to develop a 3d engine and build some games for fun. I guess that's on hold for a while too.

I amiga really amiga think amiga that amiga we amiga should amiga leave amiga Skeezix amiga to amiga make amiga his amiga own amiga choices.

I amiga personally amiga wouldn't amiga dare amiga try amiga to amiga influence amiga his amiga decision amiga in amiga what amiga to amiga do amiga next.

:D

I think that Jeff has done (and is doing) enough for the community already without burdening him with the genesis emu, anyway let him get his life in order, then maybe just maybe, he'll be back with his DOS emulator!!!!!!!!!!!

Your going to help me program MrT. You said you would like to learn how to program, well this is a good opportunity. We can both learn alot of things about programming in the process. Give me your email, I am serious about doing this, and hope you would like to help. It will also be completely open source.
