    Boot From Sd

I'm happy to see from the databook that the caanoo can power up on alarm - which it handy for PIM functions, but I can seem to find any information about how the boot process works from a caanoo perspective. I assume its using uboot? Is it possible to boot (optionally) from SD ? Has anyone...

    Debian On An Sd Card

....or you could spin your own up from the wiki instructions, it takes less time than you'd think and ain’t hard :D ! Stuckie has done a really nice job on documenting his discoveries and laying them out in a clear manner

    Debian On An Sd Card

I'd always assumed that it was because xfce was so slow.... while testing raw input from the touch screen hardware, I noticed no especial difference when either lxde or xfce was running I concluded the lag was entirely down to the (comparative) bloated nature of xfce....

    Debian On An Sd Card

odd lxde has been, like debian rock solid for me! - in fact better than open embedded you might think you're out of memory - but I bet you still have a heap of cache in use...(get it - see what I did there :D ) Having a swap file *significantly* slows the Pandora, it can be painful to watch...

Media Keys And Alarm Buzzer Idea

microcontroller aint expensive! something like a teensy is $16 and well worth it! and far more fun! ;) (besides the keyboard controller *is* a microcontroller!) I also want to implement an alarm buzzer, disable switch and at a later date some other functionality - as I'm able to write software...

ah you said you weren't going to say any more, quite why you thought this would turn hostile is beyond me, so I did you the disservice so as not to upset you...

    Pulseaudio...

If that were the case no computer would be functioning for longer than a few milliseconds, there is plenty of software that is highly stable - has reached that stability by virtue of it being established in its role for a good period of time, PA is far from established or particularly stable...

    Pulseaudio...

10-20% that’s a massive amount of ram especially on a comparatively limited system like the Pandora! and you seem to be forgetting the cpu time is just gobbles up - way more than the simple middle ware job its doing! and further for no apparent reason it can be running fine for weeks then...

bit puzzled by step two isn't that chicken before the egg ? where did you get prezip from... PND is a new system - so there are no "experts" and incidentally if you find someone who calls themselves an IT expert - run a mile there's no such thing (the field is way to wide to know it all...)

    Command Line Gui For Newbies

buy an ixxxx then... yer choice is - have a system that you can make work the way you want to.... or if you don't want the effort get something like an itouch where you get little choice - but you need very little effort, don't like simplified products? don't like products that decide how you...

    Pulseaudio...

pulse audio! memory is tight and I like the fairly low latency of sound on the pandora as is, introducing pulse is *guaranteed* to make memory tighter and it *will* increase latency, and depending how well (or not) written the alsa driver is, it could make the whole shooting match a lot less...

    Command Line Gui For Newbies

I gotta say this really is a none problem, with Linux you basically get out what you put in... (more you effort you put into learning the easier it is) Its really very easy to use a terminal, in fact you could argue using a gui is harder you can only start an application *without* parameters...

    Pulseaudio...

gods no - what a terrible thing to do to an embedded platform, add latency and use buckets of precious memory - for very little or no gain. I cannot think of a piece of software that can't use something else other than pulse so why bother? besides what more do you need than milky tracker (j/k)...
