    Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Please be safe y'all

Don't panic too much yet. The things that are most likely to kill you don't get so much time in the news. https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/the-top-10-causes-of-death (Respiratory infections are quite high up, but that includes things like the common flu.)

    Release Pandora Recovery SD-Card image

My CC Pandora would boot the OS from NAND, but would hang when it tried to show the R-shoulder boot menu or boot an SD card having autoboot.txt. I suspected a slight corruption in u-boot. The suggested way of booting the recovery card didn't work even after an orderly shutdown. Eventually, I...

    Release Pandora Recovery SD-Card image

OK, thanks for clarifying that! I tried a bunch of times and that definitely didn't work for me, and then taking the battery out did work. (PANDORA + Power Switch does normally restart the unit, so no hardware problems there.) ... And it just occurred to me that maybe I had some kind of power...

    Release Pandora Recovery SD-Card image

@EvilDragon Thanks for your work so far! The above doesn't work on my CC unit. (As I noted earlier, it will appear to work if there's a good bootloader on the NAND.) The following, however, did work: a) Remove the battery. b) Put the recovery card into the left SD Card slot. c) Press and hold...

    Weird boot issue

Thanks! I wonder what exactly Start is doing on mine then. I'd appreciate if someone with a CC Pandora could check those things too, just in case it's different. (Though come to think of it, both of those things are probably software, so could have been updated at some point.) Never mind, I got...

    Weird boot issue

The hardware boot ROM normally loads MLO/X-Loader from the NAND, which then loads u-boot from the NAND. U-boot can then boot the main OS from the NAND, or SD cards having "boot.txt" or "autoboot.txt". ED's new rescue card image includes files "MLO" and "u-boot.bin", as well as "autoboot.txt"...

    Weird boot issue

It's the hardware boot ROM, so any change would have to come from what's physically wired up to a particular input pin on the SoC.

    Weird boot issue

I imagine it should be possible to reflash the bootloader from within the OS (and backup what's there now for later inspection). Though if that goes wrong, it won't boot at all. I'm reading the boot article again: https://blogs.distant-earth.com/?p=79 Sounds like holding the right shoulder...

    Weird boot issue

I'm not sure if I did an SD card reflash on this one. But it worked until just recently and then it stopped working, with the same SD cards. And I get the same problem from holding the right shoulder even if there are no cards in the slots - can someone confirm what a fully working Pandora does...

    Weird boot issue

Now my CC Pandora has developed a problem. The internal OS still boots normally, and SD cards still work fine from within that OS. If I start the Pandora while holding the right shoulder, or if I start it with any card having autoboot.txt in the left slot, it hangs with a blank screen, with...

    Release Pandora Recovery SD-Card image

I borrowed a 2GB SD card but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

HD partitions visible only when plugged into motherboard and not when plugged as USB device ???

It could, and that would be annoying, but the issues with the old drive might just be because it's not working properly.

HD partitions visible only when plugged into motherboard and not when plugged as USB device ???

How about: put the new drive in the computer, install the new OS, put the old drive back in the computer and the new drive into the USB thing, then copy the files over using the Linux live distro.

    Release Pandora Recovery SD-Card image

I thought my symptoms above might also point to a problem with the SD card slot, but I did some SD card testing from the internal OS, and that still seems to be working.

    Release Pandora Recovery SD-Card image

Thanks for setting this up ED! Wow, the magic key is Pandora Button + Start? I don't think that was any of the ones people told me last time... I thought I would test the SD card on my working CC Pandora first. When things are working, is it possible to see whether the SD card MLO boot worked...
