Will The Gpu/cpu Of The Pandora Have Open Source Drivers?

@darkblue, Ok i wasn't aware of how things were prior G4X/Q/965. Thanks for informing me. However it still stands, that of ImgTec, Nvidia, ATI/AMD and Intel, the Intel GMA GPU's have the best FOSS support.

Will The Gpu/cpu Of The Pandora Have Open Source Drivers?

@darkblu to be fair, the only one of Intel's chips that hasn't had FOSS 3d support is the Poulsbo, and thats because its an ImgTec chip, not one of Intel's own like the rest of their lineup In general, just because a FOSS driver exists, doesn't mean we magically understand every aspect of the...

Will The Gpu/cpu Of The Pandora Have Open Source Drivers?

Weren't there rumors at some point of Intel having an interest in buying ImgTec? I really hope they do, Intel's attitude towards Free Libre Open Source Software is one of the best of most hardware companies.

Will The Gpu/cpu Of The Pandora Have Open Source Drivers?

I've gotta say the state of drivers for the SGX is simply abhorrent. Good luck even getting access to the binary blobs without signing your firstborn, and the next seven generations away in an NDA. The chip is capable of so much more, and yet we have to endure artificial limitations just so...

Wireless Interface To Gaming Rig Pc?

Squidge, see xrdp, its in most distro's repositories, its a standard RDP server. Also, should you want to control a Linux box from the Pandora, you might want to look into Compiz Nomad, which uses the RDP protocol, and would appear quite a bit faster than VNC.

    Pandora 3d Model

Ginrai, Well that's certainly disappointing for a device with "Open" in its name, I'd hope that after it's actually released, they'd publish all the CAD files, and the board schematics. A different project, making a BeagleBoard based netbook, has already released their schematics under GPLv2...

Pandora Hardware Capable Of Opengl (not Es)?

Someone on the openpandora.org forums was working on reverse engineering the low level functionality, if he could get that done, it'd be feasible that a gallium3d driver for the SGX could be written, which would allow full OpenGL, and even Direct3D using WINE's libd3d, recompiled for ARM...

    Digital Video Out

EdCa22, I wouldn't have thought that something as basic as the pinout for a component would be restricted under a NDA, but I'm in no position to know for sure :( dispraekailo, This topic is more about hacking on a digital video output somehow, not remotely accessing applications/an entire...

    Vendetta Online

yodaofborg: I still think its well within the capabilities of the Pandora, I've played the game on my EeePC a bit and it's definitely playable with 1024x600 resolution and most other settings about mid range, with some optimisation it should be playable on the Pandora, at low-mid detail (maybe...

    Digital Video Out

Hmm, thanks for the information, I wasn't really sure how the signal to the internal screen was sent. Since the method of doing this is as complex as you describe, its probably just a tad beyond my skills :P

    Digital Video Out

Hi, From what I've gathered, the OMAP3 chipset shared by the Pandora, BeagleBoard, Gumstix, and I'm sure others, has one digital and one analogue video output. I know that on the Pandora, the digital output is connected to the internal display, but I'm wondering if it would be possible to...

    Run Java And J2me ?

OpenJDK runs on ARM, so whatever few games are actually written in Java should be playable with little work. Although libraries like jogl and lwjgl might need some reworking for OpenGL ES

    Nulldce On The Beagleboard

WinCE might be possible, I know that there was experimentation done to try and use WINE to run ARM WinCE binaries on ARM Linux, not sure how much progress was made, but it could be a starting point.

    Vendetta Online

Hi guys, Vendetta Online is an independent MMO with a focus on real-time, twitch-based (i.e. you have to aim yourself, its not point and click like Eve Online) space combat. It has a native Linux client currently available for both x86 and x86_64, and although it is non-free (closed source for...
