A working port of synaptic would make me the happiest of beasts, and being able to manage packages as smoothly as using apt or portage would also make me very happy indeed!
It would be crazy for something as well connected and powerful as the Pandora to not use package management. Take a look...
Install Windows 95 into a Qemu virtual machine for the sheer pleasure of seeing the "windows 95 is starting for the first time" screen, and because it'll be about as fast as my first laptop. 15Mhz 468sx, with 8mb ram :)
I think this is an excellent idea.
I would be enthusiastic to be on both the paying and paid ends of a scheme like this.
It's a great way to marry the people with more money than time and the people with more time than money :)
Isn't this a little bit self-fulfilling?
The discussion of a 'tipping point' and proposal of a moratorium seems nearly as alarmist as what the alleged 'n00bs' have been up to.
Need there be a tipping point? Everything will calm down in the future and I think that perhaps this is ironically a...
I'm also interested in this, but mostly to see how far it could be underclocked.
I'm curious to see what the minimum functional clock speed of the SoC and memory is, for playing MP3s or videos and just for when the device is idle.
I'm relaxed and happy, looking forward to a new toy in December.
I have no idea what other people plan to use this thing for, but it's definitely a toy for me.
My biggest fear is that somebody influential *cough* will have mandated that the boot animation is creepy eyes opening. :D
(and...
I think this will mostly be a boon for applications like firefox.
It used to run acceptably on my Zaurus with 64mb of ram, but you couldn't do anything else at the same time... heaven forfend you tried to use amarok and firefox at the same time! :o
This will really make it a useful device as...
Paddy, it sounds like you might have a hardware issue if the installer is crashing halfway through. Have you tried to leave the memory tester (memtest) running overnight? You might also find it useful to try the ubuntu forums. These problems are quite common and usually fixable.
Also, what...
2.5 and 3 are equally good from my point of view, but even just 1 would make me happy, getting hold of a distributor for the connector (in single quantity) seems to be causing some trouble.
Again, I like this retro theme.
The 8-bit sounds are nifty, but I'm unsure about the "pandora" voice. It reminds me of the sentry guns from Portal*.
Less is more, in my opinion.
*"Are you still there?"
This one is by far my favourite!
Good work!
I find the eyes so creepy that I'd go out of my way to remove them from the firmware if they were to be embedded :)... Breathing and heartbeat sounds would also have to go! There's something far to visceral about all of these intimately body related...
If the buttons could be made to work at all then the phone button would definitely be remap able.
Afterall, the media keys would have to be mapped to the active media player anyway.
I too think this would be great.
I don't think I'd really want the Pandora in my pocket whilst I'm cycling/walking around but I always have a rucksack with me.
I once had an Archos 504, it was too big for my pocket really, and too heavy. The pandora is similar in size and weight. (if you're...
Ok, that makes sense if it only has an EHCI controller and no [OU]HCI controller too.
I'd never realized that EHCI was only high-speed. :)
I guess I'll be buying another USB-OTG->HOST connector. I just sold mine thinking it would be redundant...
heh.
Just out of curiosity, what is the technical reason for USB 1.1 devices not being supported?
Isn't USB 2 fully backwards compatible in the specification? And surely the controllers in the OMAP support USB 1.1?
edit for spelling ;)
I can cope with any layout printed onto the keyboard so long as the software allows comprehensive rebinding :)
I'd particularly like the mouse-move analog nub to be on the opposite side to the mouse click buttons, but the ability to change this in software would obviously be most desirable.
