    Development Bounties

IMO it would be more interesting to provide dev devices (a stripped down Pandora without case/battery/whatever) which can be used to work on the device/platform, but avoid the risk of being used for queue skipping. This way, interested developers at higher queue positions can start earlier (and...

    Scilab And Maxima On Pandora?

If we drop the algebra stuff (so we talk about physics now) you could use scipy as well. It's very useful, provides a lot of functionality ... and i think its easier to write code the python way instead of the matlab one. -> "ipython -pylab"

    Time To Make Some Money

Actually I'd say $349 is the same as $330 two years ago - if you get about +3% per year. Wheres the increase? ;-)

    Second Batch

It's not the order date but the delivery date. I don't claim this kind of thinking is rational, but its quite common: If a customer who paid for his 1st batch Pandora two years ago gets this device in the same week as hundreds of other people who ordered just today, he might think "why am I...

    Second Batch

I think thats absolutely correct. But feelings depend on someones point of view. After waiting and supporting the project with lots of patience for such a long time, some people expect that - in reward - their orders will be more important than others. Therefore they might expect that their...

Love The Pandora, But Mines On Ebay

So people who ordered two Pandoras can get the second for free by selling the first. Nice, but a bit like an indecent proposal. I don't know what I would do ...

    Second Batch

Or they just don't care about things like "volume manufacturing" and complain simply because they expected the 1st batch to ship in one continuous run - now its more like the first batch was divided in two pieces: "Really 1st batch" and "Officially 1st batch but technically second batch, because...

Cross-Compiling Is Bollocks! Toolchains Are Bollocks! Use Yo

Would ccache on SD be an option to speed up the build? Don't know if its overkill or worth a try.

    How Many In Total?

Have I missed something? As far as I know the cases were not ready to ship even AFTER the volcano problem. So in reality, the volcano had no impact on the Pandora release date. Wrong? I guess the upcoming delays will be caused by the factory queue like in the past.

    How Many In Total?

If you followed this project you should know that you can't trust ANY deadlines. So why asking for deadlines if you already know that the response is more or less random? They try to do their best, so just wait. And if their best is not enough for you, choose your own deadline.

    How Many In Total?

Asking the Chinese factory to do some extra work will most likely cause additional delays - especially if they have to send samples. OpenPandora requests should be at the end of the queue - just because its a small, tiny customer. (And don't call them bastards if you know only one side.) I hope...

Are There Any Pandora's Left For Sale?

And if this procedure takes another two or three weeks longer, they would be faster by doing the modifications in the UK. I doubt that the chinese factory will handle these things faster - OpenPandora is just a tiny unimportant customer.

Are There Any Pandora's Left For Sale?

1st one: Sounds like they order the remaining 3000 cases next week. 2nd one: They think about accepting 2nd batch (pre)orders soon + they have to decide if they produce these 4000 2nd-batch pandoras directly after the first batch. The more interesting question would be if the chinese factory...

Pandora Infra Red For Universal Remote.

The EXT port already exists, the connector should be standard and AFAIK there are several IrDA chips on the marked which simply connect to UART. So soldering is minimal - just connect existing devices. I guess it's also simpler to develop the "driver", but I'm not sure how this jack thingie...

Pandora Infra Red For Universal Remote.

The Pandora has 2 UARTs so why would one use a jack to transmit data to an IR trasnmitter?

    Iphone/ipod/ipad Os On Pandora?

You have to believe. Apple users always believe that the system is malware free because its damn good. It has nothing to do with the fact that the number of installed OSes is low. That is only correct in the Linux case. Ahh, and the world was made by apple, don't believe this evolution crap...

    Iphone/ipod/ipad Os On Pandora?

A multitouch optimized UI on a device with res. touchscreen? Nice try. Better pick something like MeeGo/Mer whatever and build an open iphone like OS on top. That would be free, cool and portable.

    Iphone/ipod/ipad Os On Pandora?

There exist several options for linux and I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be portable. Examples: ardour, http://www.breakfastquay.com/dssi-vst/ (Ok, the windows VST support uses wine, so its not portable to ARM. I don't know if there are any good open Linux VSTs.) Look at this post and...

Current Status Of All The Parts

This question was answered earlier. Anyhow, I think this number is way too ambitious. 4 minutes average to assemble the unit and test it ?? I would wait until the production has started.
