Well I did not expect the guys to create two different versions of Pandora from the hardware side. I was thinking at the beginning that they will make the JTAG interface easily accessible from the beginning. If that would be the case then a version for developers would differ from the consumer...

1) Ok, nice to know. So in my case I will have to mod the case so that I get better access to the JTAG. No problem at all... ;)
2), 3) I do not know if that would be really such a administrative nightmare... the Freerunner guys did it. But well perhaps it was a nightmare for them. ^^...

Yes I tried it now and it seems to work (it is terriby slow on my Powerbook G4 1.5GHz with 1GB RAM though)
I was not able to load smart card images but it may be that I am doing something wrong. Binary images are loading and working.
I think that a native "port" (recompilation) would help to...
There is geepee32 and there are binaries for linux. If there were sources avalable one could simply recompile it on mac OS X and there would be an emulator for mac. But I have not found any sources. :(
It is possible. Resoldiering such chips is really no problem when you have the right tools for it. Like a desoldiering heat gun. I have seen a guy at work do it several times. The problem is to find a pin compatible MCU with better specs.
