Why go through the hassle of porting an application and probably a lot of libraries, when it's easier to make something from scratch that's adapted to the controls of the gp2x?
It's not like you could take for example xmms or amarok and fiddle with it until it runs.
Also, there aren't many...
What filesystem is your USB hdd formatted in? NTFS or FAT32? NTFS is a no-go on the gp2x
Maybe also doublecheck that little filter from http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/USB_Host_BoB_Schematic
Also, i'm not completely sure that it's electrically correct to supply that 5V independant of the GP2X. I...
You CAN have 5V in an MK1, as I already mentioned here:
http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?s=&am...st&p=551464
You can't draw a lot of current from it though...
Maybe in the near future?

I have ported MidiShare to ARM, using the GP2X as my primary development platform. With MidiShare and a compatible USB-MIDI interface (steinberg 2x2 and 4x4 confirmed working), you can use your GP2X as...
Yes I tried that a while ago (before discovering the 5v point) with a Linear LT1300 ( http://www.linear.com/pc/downloadDocument....035,P1449,D2742 ) but it did provide even less power than using the internal stepup converter (a Maxim chip that provides several other voltages)
Also, despite the...
My MK1 does have a 5V point inside. I use it to power the usb-host connection. However it only provides very little current, so only a few usb memory keys I have work. Most of the time the gp2x reboots itself due to the voltage dip when plugging something in.
The 5v can be "tapped" from a...
Sprite_tm has connected a serial gps to his gp2x. You can find the details here: http://www.spritesmods.com/?art=gp2xgps

The serial output is damaged a bit, because the gp2x-menu tries to read from the serial port, too, but the NMEA-strings are recognisable.
I've tested it a bit more and it only seems to happen when changing song from an ogg/mp3 to a mod file. Suddenly the volume is quite high and when pressing one of the volume buttons it immediately switches to the previous setting again.
Maybe you could reset the volume on every song change?
Also, when changing song, it switches to another volume setting (30 I guess), regardless what you set it at before.
Are the sources available somewhere? I can't seem to find them...
Some time ago I wanted to tried this, but due to the bad cable/connector placement on the gp2x I canceled the project. You can't really hold it comfortably with the USB- and power connector plugged in.
I had the same problem. Getting the whole screen out to reach the protective cover from the inside is not easy, as the screen is like 'glued' in place. I had to pull the sides apart with both hands, really scary experience ;)
