Brief Answers to the Big (Pyra) Questions

That's a pity, I have really hoped that I can finally get a 5V-only 3.5" hard drive. Anyway, thanks for checking that datasheet.

Brief Answers to the Big (Pyra) Questions

I didn't know that 5V-only 3,5" SATA hard drives exist. I have searched the internet for such a drive several times in the past, with no luck finding one. Could you please show me one?

Brief Answers to the Big (Pyra) Questions

Yes, 3.5" drives need 12V. I think the most practical way of using such drive would be to use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/eSATA-Drive-Docking-Station-3-5in/dp/B00KILQOG0 with a cable like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-eSATA-Transition-P952-003/dp/B00119P6SU If you want...

Brief Answers to the Big (Pyra) Questions

Photos posted by ED [https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/back-from-the-dead.79356/] show that the SATA adaptor has an internal style connector (in addition to a full size USB 2.0 port). AFAIK SATA connectors are incompatible with eSATA plugs. Therefore you need an internal style SATA cable...

    5G?

Correct. Sorry if I was not 100% clear, I meant that at some point in time these vulnerabilities were unknown to the public and unfixed, and I see no reason to believe that it is impossible to have such a bug in an arbitrary multimedia framework today.

    5G?

Apparently, multimedia frameworks like FFmpeg can have remote privilege escalation and remote code execution vulnerabilities: https://vuldb.com/?id.9171 https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/33233/ https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/5994 https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2009-0385

    5G?

Do you mean parts like an audio codec or lower layer stuff such as UE side IMS functionality? As making a VoLTE call inolves receiving data from an external source and processing it with software, in theory it is possible to attack it remotely. It seems even av codecs have remote vulns...

    5G?

True. I guess that's OK as long as the Certified USB logo is not used. It's sad that even if it's technically feasible, it's not likely to happen because of legal issues. VoLTE is part of the cellular network software stack, therefore its implementations need to be certified. Maybe this kind...

    Test the keymat!

I believe the ones near the shoulder buttons are test connections for the speakers. I think I finally spotted the other four vias (near the volume wheel) in the schematic diagram. Sheet 19/51 of 4G mainboard schematics, labels "DACL" and "DACR". It says "solder in/outs for testing". So yeah...

    Test the keymat!

I use manual-incorrect instead of autocorrect :D I've tried an L-shaped jack which is normal (smallish) size, I could plug it in all the way. I haven't tought about drilling, it's a good idea but has to be done very carefully because the hole for the jack is at the boundary of two different...

    5G?

In my opinion, 5G is not viable on this device. According to the schematics, there's a USB 2.0 hub on the CPU board with three downstream ports. One of these is connected to the 4G modem (the other two are connected to the USB host ports). IIUC mobile data goes this route. There's simply not...

    Test the keymat!

Thank you. I've got it second hand twelve years ago :) Both of the nubs are equally well usable and I can't find a difference by the touch. There seems to be no dislocation when I press it hard, it holds together very nice. BTW, it's a pity that the nubs are clickable only near the center...

    Cool Stuff Thread

I've got this as a present from my SO. This is a soviet-made LO-70 uncalibrated analog single-beam hobby oscilloscope from around 1970. It has no transistors, only vacuum tubes. The only semiconductor devices are some silicon diodes. Borderline working condition. Amazing...

    Finalizing the PCBs

I meant causing strain by the heatsink pulling or pushing the heat spreading material as it moves, which is in turn glued to the SOC. Nevermind, If the heatsink is a perfect fit, there's no problem. I suspect the adhesive is of the heat conducting type? That sounds very nice. What about the...
