    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

@FBnil - thank you, but it's not actually that impressive, I mainly posted it to show that I was working on a way to start making Box86 videos (and not going back on my promise) as well as demonstrating a relatively cheap solution to do it with ($55 Pi, $15 case, $50 SSD, $60 HDMI capture card...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

Update: Built specifically for the purpose of recording and promoting Box86 videos - I present: Frankencorder. Type-C HDMI capture card + 256GB SSD + USB Stereo Microphone + Pi => Headless Streamer and HDR. Runs with OpenMax enabled FFMpeg. Frankencorder (4gb Pi) will be used to record my...

You could also try to run Anbox on your Pyra (should work as Anbox is fully supported on ARMHF) - and then run the official Apple Music android app from there. (in case the Apple Music app doesn't work (yet) on Box86-Wine). Anbox functions as a container (not unlike how I run 32-bit Linux and...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

@matzesu - I doubt that Apple Music will run at the current level of Wine support in Box86, I reckon development will have to continue a while longer before that's possible. It's mainly older games and utilities that are able to run at present. But I could be totally wrong as I haven't tested it...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

@ptitSeb Ah I wasn't sure if you had as I didn't see any mention of Quake 4 and Prey - but of course I should have guessed xD . Awesome though - I was so happy a year ago when I found out that Doom 3 could be played on the Pi via the dhewm3 project - and now even the rest of the Id tech 4 family...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

I don't know if this is news or not - if it isn't then apologies and no need to read on. If it is however: Ladies, gentlemen - pyries and pyrettes as well as pandorean citizens: Box86 can now run Quake 4 and and Prey (2006). Original (closed source) Id software SDL ports for Linux. Both are...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

In the spirit of tinkering, testing and tickling as well as the fact that my installation has mutated to the point of nearly being able to join the X-men (with its modded and recompiled Mesa, systemd and as of this morning its kernel), I decided to give the new experimental Vulkan driver for the...

Update 2: So there we are a day later - and poof - issue fixed. Things work out so very differently when one posts an issue backed by the solid knowledge and experience of one who well and truly knows what he's doing. Thanks to ptitSeb for hitting the nail exactly on the head and not...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

Update: after all that debugging and tracing ptitSeb noticed that the issue is with the '__builtin___clear_cache' section of the dynarec code, we then tested it again by changing it to '__clear_cache' and that didn't work either. ptitSeb then wondered whether or not other JIT environments such...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

@edgex004 - Well I originally mainly signed on to give thanks and praise to ptitSeb and mention an issue or two - which then became a debugging adventure. I just thought that 2 pages on the same topic was becoming a bit too much for this thread (especially as the solution hasn't quite been found...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

@ptitSeb - that does indeed seem to be the case, something to do with the way threading is done. When I try to record the gdb session - it seemed like it also crashed during a thread management moment.

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

I just realised that I've been hogging this forum with this issue. :$ Apologies to everyone - I shall move the issue to Github where it belongs and leave this forum for conveying messages, posting happy test reports and sharing Box86 exposure :)

It's starting to look like the gdb trace is stuck in an infinite loop.. If I let the program run normally in gdb - the segfault always occurs before the 4th hit of the breakpoint but when going through the process in si steps it makes it (more than a million steps) past the 4th hit. Whether a...

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

@ptitSeb - top of the morning; progress report - sad to say I haven't narrowed it down yet. I now know that the segfault occurs somewhere after 32 s and 3.100.000 si steps - but I haven't found the culprit yet. All in all a most humbling and educational experience - I wasted quite a bit of time...

Ah yes - getting different output now, although despite having built and installed Zydis it now mentions being unable to find libZydis.so. No matter - I'll look into that later, for now I'll focus on the gdb adventure. Thanks again for your understanding and patience :)

    Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

I'm working on the debugging - but in the interim I built 'box86t' with zydis support. Thought an output of that might be interesting as well. (Built on the latest version of Box86 with the modification of line 980 of elfloader.c). Apologies for misunderstanding the 'live debugging' as remote...

Indeed - sorry about that, was busy posting the other tests so hadn't refreshed the page yet. I'll get right on it and report back - thank you for the tutorial and pointers :)

Tests 8 through 14. I had noticed though that tests 6 and 10 had variable output. - you mentioned live debugging yesterday.. meaning via an SSH session? If so then we'd have to do some routing trickery as I'm stuck behind the great firewall, but it can be done. (I'm an EU...

Top of the morning / afternoon :) I started today a little selfishly and gave the new Mesa 20.2 a go - now that I have compiled and upgraded it on the host, all systemd-nspawn containers as well as the chroot. Things have indeed improved dramatically - I didn't do a whole lot of testing - but...
