iCade Jr - $10 on sale

Shame it wont reach me in time for Christmas, but this is a good deal ... Ordered one anyway, will be a nice gift for one of my iOS using mates

I got it but it won't pair with any of my android devices. My full size icade pairs fine.

Apologies for hijacking, but does the full size icade work with the Nexus 7..?

I tried one of these out, and decided its not worth it.  There's no way to charge your iPad while its connected, for example .. so you can't use it as a general docking station, which would've been great .. but I guess they got restricted by Apple.  Maybe someone can mod it, though, it seems very roomy inside that case ..

^ I thought they had a slot to feed the apple connector cable through.  Owe well, you probably could just cut a hole .  I'll check it out and see if it's possible when mine arrives.

For $15, as long as it works (hole or not), it's a bargain.  It costs me $15 just for a micro joystick I use to build my micro arcade machines.

I love the micro arcade you built, with the little coin slot and all... and the micro table top one.

I was reading something about a couple of the buttons not working simultaneously with the joystick on the MAME emu.

so might be a bit of a problem for run & jump games...

I'll just try find what I read...

edit: this...

Small world, I also saw that post the other day.  I was thinking it might be the reason they dropped the price.  Will definately test it out when it comes.  If it's a complete dude, I'll part it out and use the joystick, buttons etc on other projects.

Looks like ThinkGeek have dropped the iCade Jr price even further to $10.  Ridiculous

Updated the first post to reflect this new price (Down from the $15 sale price (RRP is $50))

With Mame4Droid the trick is to bypass bluetooth authentication via an extra app, called Bluez IME. See if this helps

Ok, just got my iCade Jr.  I can tell you a few things about it.

*  Well packaged

*  Well Built

*  There is a hole for an Apple connector to pass through and charge your iphone/ipod touch while you play.

*  Joystick screws into a D-Pad and can be removed so you can use the D-Pad instead (Good idea)

*  Joystick definately does do Diagonals no problem (Some said it doesn't and could only do 4 way, definately untrue, it's definately 8- way)

*  Not having any issue yet with buttons not responding when using the joystick, will need to test further.

*  Has 8 buttons , 4 on front panel, 4 on the back.

*  Button mappings when using imame4all are weird. The buttons on the back seem to be mapped for firing by default. Front buttons seem to do Coin and Start.  Will need to try and see if this can be changed.

*  Came with batteries - Who does that these days.  Nice touch

the joystick into dpad thing sounds alright eh, and batteries included is a nice touch.

how about taking it apart -easily- in terms of the buttons... if say I wanted to spray it a solid colour and add some little space invader decals of my own?

All the panels seem to be screwed on, so should be easily pulled apart.

Also, last night I did manage to get into the imame4all hidden menu to remap some of the buttons, managed to remap fire to one of the buttons on the front and was able to duplicate the issue regarding moving and button presses.  I'll have more of a play today to see which combinations have issues and which don't.

Ok, heres the button situation with imame4all

Of the 8 buttons the 4 on the back work fine in combination with moving the joystick.

The Top and Right buttons on the front panel also fully work.

The Left and bottom buttons on the front panel don't work properly when you are also moving the joystick.  They are also the buttons mapped to Coin and Start.  Re-mapping start and coin to other buttons doesnt help.

So as far as imame4all goes , 6 of the 8 buttons work fine.

Also, I completely dis-assembled it .  Looks very well built and easy to dis-assemble.  Joystick is really just a joystick stuck to a d-pad setup on the usual rubber contact mat.

I'll be using the internal of this one for my next micro arcade which I hope to finish within 2 weeks.
