I packaged the java app jEdit into a pnd.
http://www.jedit.org/

Get pnd here:
http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/pandora.cgi?0,0,0,0,115,244

It shouldn't write to nand.

Also it needs WizardStan's java.pnd installed to run:

Sorry to revive an old thread but I thought it was the most appropriate place to comment.

JEdit crashes back to the desktop pretty much every time I try to do anything with it. I therefore can't attempt to use it for anything other than eye candy. This is possibly a ram issue because it does seem to be a pretty hungry application.

Anyone else had this problem?

I can easily create a swap file but my previous swap file killed an sd card sooner than I expected.

Thanks

Yeah, swap is a b**** on sdcards ;)
I also think it is memoryrelated. You could use another editor, that is not that memoryhungry like gedit or bluefish.
