How do I log on as root? I don't remember setting a root password, so, before i re-flash, I wanted to make sure there wasn't a default password or that functionality isn't locked out.

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere... I did several searches but to no avail.

Thanks!

1) Don't log in as root. It's bad practice.

2) I seem to recall that root is created with a random password.

If you want to run a command as root, use "sudo <command>". If you want an actual root terminal, use "sudo su". If you really really must log in as root (and I am honestly curious what use case you have that you need to log in as root, honest), use "sudo passwd" and set a new password for root: you'll then be able to log in using that password.

sudo works perfectly for my needs. I am embarrassed to say I have never heard of it - thanks so much!

This is related I think...

I want to edit my wiimote file but it is in /etc/

How would I go about doing that do I need to log in as root?

It's so weird for a config file to be somewhere that I can't edit it.

Code:
sudo mousepad /etc/file

its for your own good...

^ It's not that strange. It's a device that the entire system can use, no? :p

Strange to me I guess. I'm too used to being able to reassign buttons via a GUI!

Ps how would I add a new config file into there that I have just created from scratch?
