Is there any chance of just being able to play regular midi files in the background to save on the music space? The cut down version of the files with no sound takes up so much less space, but if effects and music, or even just some music could be played then that would be cool.

I'm pretty sure you can't do this already with the current release, but I might be wrong B).
 
Might be a better idea to go for .mod support, since its probably easier to implement; the files *are* larger, but not too big (and certainly smaller than current BOR music, which is in .wav format, apparrently...)
 
Rendering a Midi-Stream takes by far too much CPU power... DJWillis said, the OPL emulation which is basically playing some kind of midis in ScummVM eats 30% CPU power...

MOD support may appear in a later release, but don't hold your breath. The only thing half-written for BOR 0.6 is a new MOD selection screen.
