just want to make sure this is all compatible, and has enough power / slots / etc.

if anyone has any suggestions as to make it cooler / quieter / faster / cheaper / etc, let me know

Everything looks fine except for the hard drive, I have had bad experience with Samsung, if you can, I would suggest buying a Seagate within the same price range. While Seagate isn't known for it's speed, they are definitely some of the most reliable HDs out there (almost as good as Fujitsu). You might also want to invest some money into a DVD burner. But then again, if you don't fool around with home media and Linux, it's probably not necessary.
