What is and isn't possible with the Pandora console?

What is and isn't possible? Just on a site with tons of open sourced games and came across an open sourced PSP emulator along with a few other bits. An open sourced PSP emulator with 70 games or so playable!! Some of the stuff like Alien Arena is based on the Quake 2 or 3 engine and it's my understanding that both are running great on the pandora.

On a separate note can anyone port the below? I've asked for a few ports now so I've had my head in Python and Pygame tutorials for the past 12 hours so hopefully I can start giving back soon :)

I believe there is already a GemRB port in some form.

Edit: Looks like you just found it..

My excitement for my pandora just racked up another 600 notches :)

I hope stuff like Alien Arena is able to be ported though.

Edit:I'm sure there are a few ears perking up at the possible thought of a PSP emulator port...

Alien Arena is based off Quake 3, there is already a port of Quake 3 for the Pandora... so who knows when someone with time and motivation comes around to try to port it, it may happen.

Maybe we should pin some answers to this question. It seems to be asked a lot. A short list of what programs the Panda can run, what might run and what won't run. People have a lot of trouble understanding what ARM is and how it affects the Panda.

I don't think that comment is fair given I provided open sourced games with alien arena using quake 3s engine.

I didn't mean to pick on you, I was just saying that this question is asked often. I thought it would be beneficial to make a list so everyone could use it instead of searching the forums.

Yes you're right. The app store could do with updating. For instance I wasn't even aware baldurs gate and torment could run on the Pandora. If they put gemrb in the app store people would know.

The thing is that most of those ports are in a beta stage. I agree its a pain to find software now, it would be cool if the appstore or the archive woudl have a beta section. And in general be more complete.

Yeah, but Craig's too busy for that. I vote that they put up another guy to do it.

the appstore does seem very quite and not up to date.i hope it gets better when there are more pandoras about.

Thanks for the link. Can not the App store be updated? Surely Baldurs gate is a big one for a lot of people?!

For showcasing the decice as well I'm sure prospective buyers have a look at the App Store to see what it's capable of. As Baldurs Gate and Torment have massive cult followings it would be beneficial for everyone to get Gemrb in the app store. I've been following this project off and on since the day it started but I only shelled out the money for it late December.

Had I known Torment was playable I would've ordered from the start.

If we could get the app store up to date and looking fairly impressive (it's impressive already don't get me wrong, but visiting the developers sections on both forums shows a lot more games than what may be perceived by visiting the app store)

If OP members find this too busy a thing to do surely they could delegate the task to a trustworthy someone on here.

not a bad idea.I hope the app store is updated.Maybe when the first 4000 pandoras are released more work will be done

Depending on what needs to be done, I'd be interested in helping maintain the app store once I get my Pandora and start learning how things are done with PNDs, etc.

Honestly, in the current form I personally hope that the "appstore" dies and is revived in some better/more usable form. For me it is just basically unusable. It does not offer categories in a "sane" way (3 is just not enough!), it is hard to get a good overview, especially when not viewing it on the pandora and it "feels" strange (don't click on "recent uploads" after going directly to http://apps.openpandora.org, click on the top left first, then you can click (a redirect is missing!)). Personally I prefer EDs archive since it can be viewed on a normal computer screen and you actually can find what you are looking for rather easily.

In general I think the best way to find the latest software at this very moment is probably using the wiki. What would be nice would be some "pnd center" like thingy that can keep my pnds up to date and do stuff like this. Till this is available I'll rely on EDs archive (for uploading SNES9X4P) and listing stuff in the wiki on these pages:

Emulators

Games

(other) Software projects
