i dont know how many people have ever heard of the x-com series (shame on you if havent), but in my opinion and many others will agree, that x-com: ufo defense (and maybe x-com: terror from the deep) is/are one of the classics in strategy/tactical pc gaming. i also think that it would be perfect on a handheld. the graphics are very low res and the whole game is like 4MBs tops! there isnt any key commands (not that i know of), mostly point, click, drag commands.

heres a good website: http://www.xcomufo.com/

just a suggestion, no biggie either way. good job regardless guys!

PORTS NEED SOURCE CODE!!!! n00b! :p But I"m sure there could be a remake. READ THE RULES BEFORE POSTING!

EDIT - I'm sorry I just had to do that. I'm sure there are some remakes of X-Com being done on other platforms with open source.

OH man i have been dying for an x-com port on gp too. I know you need a source code so i never said anything but i cant help myself now. x-com tftd is one of my favorite games of all time but x-com UFOD would be just as awesome to have. Shew.

Too bad we don't have the source. A remake is definitely possible, though, and would work better interface-wise if it was designed for the GP32 from day one as opposed to being ported over from PC.

Speaking of XCom-style games, the source code to Jagged Alliance 2 is apparently coming out soon, you might want to track it down (I saw a Slashdot article earlier on it; unfortunately it looks like you're going to have to buy an expansion pack to get it -- plus it's extremely Windows-centric, the bastards).

I understand the issues with source code, but I wonder if these games could be interpreted as some Sierra games are?

I don't strictly understand what all this entails and how this all works. When I first came across the GP32 I thought does it do Doom, sweet, what about X-COM...no? That is a real shame. I would kill to play UFO on my GP32. Whoever owns that code owes me, I have like six versions actually I bought, or something equally absurd! <_<

I tell you what, if X-COM was made available for the GP32, My fella would grab mine and I would probably never see my cute little ole' GP32 again

Well, who knows... maybe there'll be more luck with DosBOX on the GPx2 (doubt it but hey, I can dream :) ), which would possibly be enough for X-Com 1, if not 2; after all it ran easily on a 386 at 16MHz, although I'll admit that since a 2.5GHz machine seems to have trouble emulating a pentium, 16MHz is optimistic, if not simply naive, at best.

If not, then as has been mentioned, a remake is certainly possible; even some of the High Res remakes might be conceivable to port for the next gen machine, although less so for this one (not so stunning scaling).

Must say, its one of the types of games I really do enjoy... X-com team turn-based esque stuff is stunning.

Do try, idd, laser warriors (iirc - could not do, been a while) on the ST though; it's like the X-com predescessor. Looks not as good, but its still cool and in the same style.
