Gigas-engine 0.7.0

damnit, not having a credit card sucks :/

edit: some questions of things I had in my mind:

- people are running around on my map. Can I get it so that if I touch a person, I get warped to another map?

- a "random" teleport when I touch that character: I have 3 maps, they all look exactly the same but the switch to teleport back is located somewhere else. also, if I manage to do something special on that map (like flipping a switch, killing a monster, ...) I teleport back to where I came from

- oh and that teleport back should teleport to the same place you ran into the person...

Can you do these things with 065? Will they ever be possible? :)

if it's impossible, just say so :) it's really no prob

CHATBOARD?! YES!! Send your mailing address to me, Pirotic. My email is moose_pete@hotmail.com
I will send you $20 cash U.S. by this Friday!
Thank you v.much for the offer, sadly i can only accept paypal - here in england you have to pay to convert dollars into pounds which wouldn't leave me with anything :(

As for your questions Q-Wi-Q...

*scratchs head* lol!

triggering a teleport when you speak to somebody isnt possible unless that person is standing still and you have a hotspot under him, i may add a "trigger cutscene/hotspot" when spoken to command which would allow that tho in a future version of gigas.

as for random maps, i suppose it'd be possible if i allowed trigger values to be used in the teleport settings, that wont make any sense until 0.7.0 comes out tho as i dont think i've explained triggers yet :)

I could really do something with that :D

..but I'll wait until 0.7 gets released, and then I'll start thinking along a more practical way :)

I would just like to say that, pirotic, you are a king amongst men! I admire you so so much and cannot believe that a single person could create something so spectacular. I think that a status, better than guru, should be created just for you! I have hours of fun with Gigas and cannot wait to create a full rpg with slideshow cut scenes and a proper story line.

I do, however, have a question. Will you be releasing a PC version of the editor.? meaning that the whole landscape can be viewed as it is being designed. I find it really difficult to create a scene, only seeing the little area that I do so this / an option to zoon out in game) would be ideal.

Also, where can I find sprite sets for characters that will fit into the gigas design squares?

Again another question, what colour will the background have to be behind the character makes on the stencil?

Thanks and also I was wondering.... can I have your babies?

Hiya BirdofPrey.

a PC editor will be done once the GP32 version is finished, until then you can always use Mappy for windows to create maps with on the PC which can then be exported to gigas.

you can find sprites from all sorts of places, http://tsgk.captainn.net/ is a really good site for snes rips.

Have you tried http://www.giglio1.karoo.net/ ? thats the official gigas resource site which has pre-made gigas character graphics you can download, i believe its down at the moment as its being redesigned.

background stencils for characters? you've lost me mate.

im guessing your talking about transparencys? if so then bright pink which is the first colour in the pallette.

thanks for the praise :) its motivating to hear people are having fun using gigas.

hi
I have a CHA01 and I wont use it so if your are interrested I can sell it to you for about 5€
(in fact I have 2 but 1 is enough :D)
just PM me if you want...:)
keep up that great job ;)

see you

EDIT : I mean 5€ would be for shipping...
If you prefer I would be pleased to give it to you so gigas dev will be helped :)

Could you add Mod support as that would not use up very much of the processor (like ogg/mp3/midi? would), I have a Midi>Mod converter so finding Mod music would not be a difficult task...

Also there is readily available source for the GP32 mod player so it would not be too difficult to implement...

from what im aware, mod players woulds eat up alot more cpu than .wav and .ogg would, but i'll take a look - its a pretty cool format and i'd be interested in coding my own librarys for it :)

midi will be the most difficult sound to support, but its pretty much a "must have" for that old snes RPG feel :p i have some theorys on how i can be done tho :)

the gp32 doesn't have any built in instruments, so its more of a memory issue than anything - im trying to keep a good few megs free for audio so hopefully it'll be ok (so long as i use compressed samples and make it only cache the ones which are required for that tune into ram)

Well, possibly your easiest bet would be LibOPL or whatever it is ScummVM uses; its slow as hell (requires about 66MHz of the CPU time, I think DJWillis once told me), but it works...

another small request for any future verion: brush support, but not from the tilemap but from the actual map... 'cos having only one tile of grass in your tileset is kind of annoying since you can't brush it then :)

oh ok, so you can hold select and drag say - a square on your map and it'll make that into the brush..

thats a good idea ;) i'll add it.

cheers
