Zelda

:)

I bought a GC for the previous Zelda (and Ocarina of Time: Master Quest).

I'm really awaiting the new Zelda :)
Looks great :)

I just hope it's better than the Wind Waker (the Wind Waker had way too few dungeons).

Not really new graphics, most of those (atleast very very similar) were previewed at E3 a couple years ago, they might have updated them a bit, but not much.

When they announced cell shading in windwaker, there was a huge disapointment, everyone wanted the graphics they previewed at E3, after the let down that was windwaker, they officially announced they are going to create a new zelda with those E3 graphics as planned. Its good to see it finially happening, although N lost me at windwaker. I wouldnt buy it for any amount of money now. The ruined it for me.

Akuma the last demo was just Link fighting Ganon, it was a technical demo. Since it was either CGI rendered or very alpha, I suspect they didn't use that. This engine is probably a port of the OoT engine (which is based on Mario 64's engine) - or possibly Sunshine's. It looks a lot like OoT anyways. Graphics are obviously outstanding, but I hope they don't do a Wind Waker with the gameplay. The only original thing I saw was the horseback killing which was quite cool; like EvilDragon I hope there are more dungeons and that they are more original.

With this, HL2/DOOM 3 release dates and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 being completely 3D, so far I've found the E3 to be better than sex!!

It's running on Windwakers engine btw, just not using cell-shading.

And Windwaker was awsome, I don't understand either how you could not like it. imo it was a return to roots for zelda after the strangely realistic OoT (Which is still brilliant).

Hangon:

Original zelda (Stylised cartoon)
AoL Zelda 2 (Realistic Graphics - for time)
LttP Zelda 3 (stylised cartoon)
OoT (Realistic)
WW (Stylised cartoon)
New Z (Realistic)

Apart from the odd off-spin (Majora's & GB games) there seems to be a pattern emerging.

Personally I loved what wind waker did, it was almost the perfect game for me (almost because admitidly it coud have been longer - which is also a good thing, most games I can't wait to end). really fluid responsive control & playability combined with fantastic graphics and adventure - A balance thats never been achieved as well as this.

I'd love to see a LttP remake with WW's graphics engine.

I have to disagree pubjoe, the originial zeldas were not cartoonish in anyway, I absolutly abhor cartoony games, and those, were not, they were standard game graphics for their time. It didnt get cartoonish until the N64 (and then only barely) Which is where zelda died for me (but not for graphics, it was bad gameplay that did it for me). Windwaker is where it went from bad to worse. I am 24, not 12. I dont want to play a god damn cartoon. I grew up with zelda, I purchased the zelda games from nes to snes the day they came out, I even did reserves for the most part.

Although the new zelda looks like one I could defintly get into, I will not play it, nintendo lost me as a customer and they wont win me back that easily.

I would also disagree, none of the Zelda games were cartoony except Wind Waker. I think they were scared that the OOT/MM graphic style was getting old, or maybe they just wanted to show off Gamecube hardware. Either way it was clearly a bad move; they originally wanted to make a second game (like MM) using that engine in the same style.

As for running on the WW engine... that's impressive. Considering the graphic styles are completely different and this version would have to had had all of its shaders rewritten, they either have a very extensible engine or have ripped almost everything out of the WW engine and recoded it.

And I found WW to get tedious towards the end. No interesting triforce piece locations - nope, they're buried in the ocean. Lots of tedious sailing. The warp spell makes it easier, but you still have to sail to get to your location. And the puzzles are too easy. Even cool stuff like the ghost ship, which is alluded to throughout the game, is spoilt by the inclusion of a fricking map detailing its route.

Theres a lot of highly original and highly playable games on GC - F Zero GX is my favourite :) Its like having an arcade in my front room. (Anyone play the Meteor AX track?)

I loved Ocarina and I thought Wind Waker was a different "take" - you can't diss Nintendo for being a follower, they always think f**k it lets take it in this direction - kind of why they're a games company not a multimedia company like Sony. Unfortunately when it doesnt pan out (like the Virtual Boy) it can hurt them - this new Zelda is like them saying to MS and Sony "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough".

I'll probably get this, like I'll get FFVII when it comes out on PSP :)

To be honest, so far every Zelda I've loved mostly because it's always evolving and changing and different. Like lizard say's you can't blame nintendo for following the crowd, they've alway's been innovators and are one of the few games publishers left with that attitude.

But in response to Akuma, I'm also 24 and I won't overlook any game because it looks like a cartoon. Especially when it's been made by a company that rarely dissapoints. In fact I find the constant Cyber/Future/Matrix type clones more childish because of their formulaic gameplay not bacause of their particular graphic style.

Give the game a try for yourself before you dismiss it.

The original Zelda werent cartoony, but the SNES and conscquent GBC games were bright coulorful, with that RPG charichaturism that took over the SNES, then the N64 one were just GREEN

I HATED Ocarina of Time and Majoras mask, they were boring, and i never got Epona in OoT coz i went to adult Link b4 i realised wot i had to do to get him, then i couldnt be arsed to get all of the shards or whatever the hell i was collecting. Winda Waker was awesome, to me it felt more like the SNES game (I never played NES one till i got the collectors edition) Its simple but good enuff to kep u interested, i spent most of the game (holy shit the demo just loaded an i wet myself) doing theside quests (i LOVE animal crossing and Harvest Moon)

But that is sweeet knowing Nintendo Mario 128, Zelda, Metroid 2, and Paper Mario 2/Mario Story 2/Mario RPG 4, will all come out on N5,. althoguh there are rumours around that Mario 128 is nearly finishe andNinty dont want n e one stealing their ideas
