I have searched but to no prevail. I have had to reinstall windows but all my emails are stored in my documents. As I have reinstalled XP I can no longer acess my old documents (acess is denied). Is there some thing to let me back into them?
Thanks in advance. My purchase number for my blu and everything is in there.

did you reformat the PC or just install over the top, if you reformatted then all your data is gone, an install over the top however could just be down to rights - which you should be able to get round by logging in as 'proper' administrator.

ok. It is home edition. The original stuff is still there and I think I am the administrator.

No luck. It has been made private I think and I have installed xp on both partitions to try it but no luck. All the web site I have payed to get access to ant the logina and passworkd are in that.

Taking ownership of files, found this in XP help

To take ownership of a file or folder

Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the file or folder you want to take ownership of.

Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.

In the Change owner to box, click the new owner.

(Optional) To change the owner of all subcontainers and objects within the tree, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.

This may help, hopefully it does.

Mine does not have a security tab but that is the best idea so far. Maybe you could try and find a way to d othat on home edition.
I believe that this type of encryption only works on ntfs drives. Maybe I could format a drive and replace the folders afterwards.

If you don't have a security tab, then it is a fat 32 partition. And if you cannot access you folders with it, it means that you've lost them forever.

Not quite true, to view ACL's on XP home (and pro if it is not on a domain) you need to turn "Simple Networking" OFF. This is to prevent people who have no idea what an ACL is breaking there setup (and a good idea IMHO).

You should be able to find the setting in XP's help as I can't be bothered to look it up now.

Of course if you have FAT32 (unlightly) and you have locked files then you shagged. Not that FAT32 can really lock files anyway.

And all my important stuff is in there expecially my gp32 blu purchase number from gbax.

oh yeah wrong place. I keep getting the general discussion forums mixed up.

Spray, don't be cold, he was only asking for help, even if he did do it in the wrong forum, you don't have to be a w***** about it..!
