Just thought of a game, not to port, but which I fully intend to email the developers about the porting of... Uplink :)
Fully 2D so no probs there, prolly not very CPU intensive, and very very very atmospheric.

They prolly won't bother, & if they do it'd be one you had to buy, but it'd be very nice if it happened :)

As with most of these, its a wishlist - but if it happens, pleased would not be the word for it...

Nice idea

I love that game. A lot of the typing would be very annoying though. Althoguh I suppose rather than avtual typing they could just give a list of possible commands (there aren't that many commands recognised in the Console mode of the servers).

I think I'll e-mail them as well. Nice one!

That'd be the idea :)

Only thing I'd be slightly concerned about is how it would handle the bit at the end, or if your PC gets infected with...

... since that produces quite a bit of lag (or at least, did for me)

Wasn't that the online game made by 3 bored students at Uni - then suddenly somebody was interested in publishing their game?

Nah, its an offline big conspiracy theory one. The idea is you work for the Uplink corporation as a freelance hacker. You basically do jobs for people involving pretty much anything - although your respect varies depending on what you do (more if you take out big businesses, less if you specialise in changing people's grades). And of course, there's a good story underneath it all. The thing includes a stockmarket, various (fake) bbses, and a few hidden places. But the game itself is so atmospheric that despite its not having the newest graphical splendour, its still not only playable, but extremely enjoyable too.

Of course, if they did port it, it'd be a commercial venture, but frankly, I'd be perfectly willing to buy it again on a handheld... it'd be virtually ideal...

Only problem might be when you have to do stuff from the command prompt, but even then, a menu of usable commands would let us get round that without a virtual keyboard.

http://www.introversion.co.uk/ for the site... I've started a forum post there, so say it'd be a good idea people :)

20th April 2003

Introversion Software are planning to release an Uplink Developer CD. This CD will contain, amongst other things, the complete source code to Uplink and all supporting tools and libraries.

This Developer CD has been a heated topic of discussion at Introversion for some time. We've had plenty of arguments about the pros and cons of releasing the source to the public. There has always been a plan to release the source code to Uplink at some point, but this has never been possible due to commercial licensing problems - Introversion could easily be put out of business if loads of free Uplink clones started appearing on the market. We eventually came to the conclusion that we'd have to wait until Uplink was no longer a "commercial" product - but this means we'd be looking at sometime mid 2004 at the earliest.

We've decided to bring that date forward. We will have to impose a license on the use of the source code - this won't be Open Source - and we will be charging for that license. This means we will be keeping fairly close control over this release. We certainly haven't hammered out all of the details yet, but this is going to happen and we're hoping the Developer CD will be ready for release in around one month.

With the Keyboard thats been fitted to GP32 Uplink would be easy to play... Any news on a Uplink Port???
