Release Emu EX Plus Alpha ported to the Pandora

I dont know if this has been reported already, but try running fast in Super Mario World and you'll notice the black bar at the top - normally not visible - becomes visible through flickering. (tried in fullscreen, frameskip auto, v.1.43) It's a relatively minor issue, but it is still slightly annoying, so a bug fix would of course be welcome!
What are the key combination you use? Also, what version of Pandora you have (+ firmware version and SGX drivers used if not the default ones).

About Key combinason, I was asking what buton/key do you press. What is your setup for button basicaly (I was wondering if some "shift"/"control" was interfering maybe).

For the Chrono Trigger hacks, I didn't knew them. So I cannot say. I'll try to check. Also, you can try to ask the Author of the .emu serie (Robert Broglia) if support is possible, or even the Snes9x team. Have you tried with the 1.53 version of Snes ?

Oh, just left or right to run across :)

I didnt set up shift/control to anything.

Yes, Snes9x version doesn't matter - the hacks are also unsupported in the Windows versions, for example. ZSNES seems to be the only emulator out there that is capable of running these extended ROMs.

Does the black bar still present with latest (build 05) version ?

Yup. As said, its only flickering with fast screen movements, popping up and off again. With little movement on the screen, its not noticeable.

I've also noticed flickering when ending a level on Super Mario World (blackness zooming in on the level) and in the water parts (third? level on the right side of the world map on SMW).

Oh, and forgot to mention: Got a rebirth unit, tried at 600 as well as 900Mhz

Small problem, when I use iControlPad, and set everything up using the iCP in HID keyboard mode, pressing right on iCP as second player also makes first player do Y. In HID gamepad mode, I can't assign any controls, and the built in scanning function doesn't work. In iCP's experimental packet mode it works normally, but all the buttons are m, so that isn't useable either.

Does anyone know what mode to put the iCP in for this?

I'm only using the SNES version.

About HID game mode, the Emu EX Plus Alpha series doesn't yet support it, but the Author (Robert Broglia) as support for all gamepad in his todo.

I don't own an iControlPad, so I cannot help here.

For info, one of the Saturn games that works well is Panzer Dragoon.
Panzer Dragoon is playable but runs slow for me.Same for Albert Odyssey and Lunar Magic.

Amazing that they can be played at all though.

Any other playable Saturn games out there?? I would go crazy for Radiant Silvergun.

POWERSLAVE is a underrated game for the Saturn. Most similar to Doom and Hexxen.

A FPS gem.

Powerslave exist on PC (Dos based) also. Based on Build engine IIRC. Maybe it runs well on QEMU or DosBox ?

After your suggestion I started searching. I also noticed POWERSLAVE is an iso for PSX so I am going to give this a shot.

Funny I never knew it existed on PSX

Ah yes, PSX is your best shot here :)

Hi,

about 2600.emu, anybody tried Yar's revenge with it? On my Pandora the flickering is so bad most of the time things are barely visible.

I tried it, and despite the fact I don't understood what I'm supposed to do, there was no flickering. You took the last build on the repo?

OK. It's just very odd, since in keyboard mode it should appear as an ordinary keyboard, and it does, but only this ap has problems with it. Hopefully the author can fix it.

I have the latest version. I was finally able to see things correctly by pushing the LCD brightness to the max and pusing the gamma to 1.2. Just a bit suprised because the other  emulator I used did nor need that<. I guess I was kust lucky. Anyway, I still prefer your emulator :) .

I do have another question, in the default keymap, going back to the UI is by using Menu. I suppose this is the Pandora button. I have to change this if I use minimenu, right? (With minimenu, it kills the app.)

I never use the "Pandora" button in my program. May be I should, but I prefert to let this button to the system.

For emu-plus-ex-alpha, the "back" is "ESC" (Fn-Q) (there is also an "Up" on folder browser with "left"). When in game, it will ask "Really quit?", choose "No" to go back to UI.

The Gamma/Contrast thing is strange? I have use the emulators in both a Rebirth (with SuperZaxxon 1.53 firmware) and a CC(with SuperZaxxon 1.54RC firmware) without any problem. I haven't personnaly tested on GHz Pandora, but haven't seen report of this issue here. What model/version of firmware (or atlternative OS)/version of GPU driver are you using?

I am not sure if it is a rebirth or CC. I tried 1.53 and 1.54RC with same result. I have not messed with the drivers so it should be the default one. I usually start from minimenu, but the result is the same if I go through XFCE.

For -fexpensive-optimizations, I'm using gcc4.7.2, and yes, the fight screen of Golden Sun is corrupted :( . I have tested some things that worked, so I was assuming it was ok. (I won't switch to gcc 4.8 before stable release)
GCC 4.8.0 stable is now out which fixes the GBA.emu issues.

About your EGL changes, since you're not actually using the Xlib display & window objects, maybe I can look into making a version without X and use just evdev to read input once it's ready? It's possible the flickering/tearing issues are caused by some strange interactions between X and the GPU drivers directly drawing to the framebuffer. Luckily I'm getting a Pandora in the near future thanks to ED so hopefully I can figure out what the exact problem is :)

On another note, I've been trying to play two Chrono Trigger hacks (Flames of Eternity & Prophet's Guile) - two really awesome games. However, only ZSNES seems to support extended ROMs and not Snes9x - do you think there is ever a chance that this will be incorporated either in your Snes9x version or in the "official" (ie. Windows) version? Do you know how much work this would take? There must be a reason that it never made it into Snes9x so I'm guessing it's too complicated.... It's a real pity since that means these games are only playable on the PC :(
I tried an IPS-patched Flames of Eternity and it seemed to run fine though I didn't get very far. What's the exact issue with it?

Does anyone know what mode to put the iCP in for this?
You need to be in SPP mode to use the in-app scanning which will take over the device for the duration the app. Once evdev support is ready in a future update, you can use it in regular HID Gamepad mode paired via the OS instead.
