Modded X-box

I modded mine using the audio exploit. It requires no mod chip and doesn't have the dreaded clock loop that other exploits have.
The audio exploit is obsolete now, get the ultimate dash exploit (UDE). It has no clock loop, instant boot into Phoenix BIOS loader and then into your dashboard, and you can set UDE to be off when the xbox turns on with the tray open or on when the tray is closed.

Hey.

My friend has a modded X-Box and a Dance Pad but is not good with computers so I am downloading and hoping to get some answers.

I just got Gentoox Linux, do I need to burn the iso to a CD-R or RW?
Where do I get all of the Homebrew software? Is there a bittorrent site that has homebrew games like Beats of Rage and StepMania?
How do I install files onto the X-Box? Do I burn whatever games/roms onto a CD-RW and just click on the run from DVD or other media thing on his dashboard?
How do I get Songs for StepMania, will I have to burn 2 disks, 1 for StepMania and one for the Songs?

Thanks, I hope you can answer these questions. I think I'm gonna get myself a modded X-Box :D

Burn to CDrw

On IRC for software. I forget the channel name, someone'll say...

That's all I know I'm afraid. I don't have an xbox :S.

Thats utter rubbish about Xbox-Linux being pointless. It works exactly as any other PC linux system once it is installed. Plays any media file you throw at it... MAME runs great... X windows works fine, mozilla, etc.. what else do you want it to do?

Here's mine... the first in-car Xbox-Linux entertainment system ever done (and shown in 'Edge' magazine and covered on both Slashdot.org and Xbox-Linux.sourceforge.net):

That is brilliant! Why does the picture not fit the screen though? Is that just the emulator?

BTW is the Xbox in your boot?

It's just the mode I've got the head unit set to (cinema, I think) so stuff stays i the right aspect ratio. It's only about 8 pixels or so at the top and bottom, not really noticeable tbh.

Xbox was in the boot, along with power invertor and amp. Though they're all now sitting on the bench waiting to go in the Supra :) (I sold the car that they were in)

well cant believe i only saw this thread now and there is nothing more i like to do than harp on about modded x-box's

in a nutshell if you own an xbox and you aint got it modded yet, your a slave to the skinny gimp that is bill gates.

the possibilities are endless, here are a few of my faves

metal slugs - i got my xbox modded so i could play all these, and man o man i was not dissapointed, plus neo geo games rock i recommend the leagend of sucsessful joe for a larf.

n64 - with the new surreal on the horizon, the screen shots ive seen actually look better than an n64, pray for better compatabilitty

snes emulation - the new ver of xsnes9x has the great h2qx filter (or something like that anyway) that makes the snes look soo sweet, (although not as sweet as i would have hoped for but sweet enough)

Now the main reason - amiga emulation... well what can i say about the amiga its amazing although does need a little knowledge of messing around with the settings its one amazing home computer (alien breed, body blows, cannon fodder, swos, road kill come on guys its amazing!)

so get a modded x-box it would be nice if we could get some form of gp32 to xbox link but tis mearly a dream.

Keep in mind I did the modless software exploit a year ago, and haven't updated anything since then. N64 emulation is excellent, many games run full speed with sound and perfect graphics, while some other games don't work it is still amazing. Everything i've tried below that is pretty much perfect, and the media player just adds to the fun. It really is amazing. Megadrive emulation is top-notch, it has everything including custom skinning, snes emulation is great, Gameboyadvance emulation is better than playing on the actual system. If you haven't modded your xbox, you are really missing out.

the irc channel name the dozer was talking about is called xbins
follow the instructions there and they will give you instructions on how to access there ftp

edit: oh yeah i love my modded xbox
my modchip is xecuter 2.3b lite and i recomend it

I have another question about X-box linux. Do I have to install it on my HDD cuz I dont want to give up any part of any partion on my Xbox HDD. Is it possible just to run it from a CD or DVD like Knoppix for the PC???

I currently have a 120gig HDD in my X-box but I dont want to take anything off it. I have lots of emu's, Movies, and X-box games. I wish I could hook up an external HDD then I would have room to install linux or I could just ftp into my X-box and put some things on my comp by the way how much room do I need anyway?

If you have a 120GB Xbox then you should have no problem. Just follow the installation instrucions on the Gentoox site for FTP installation. It takes up 3GB and you don't need to do any partitioning like you think.

are you a solderer?
nope but I would like to learn how I just wanted an easy way to swap hardrives like one for emu and X-box games and one for Movies or linux thats why I think it would be great cuz my 120gig is full. If I could hook up 2 HDD's one in my X-box and another external one via controller port that would be cool but seems like that cant be done like you said can only add ide HDD so I guess my best bet is to replace my 120gig for a 250gig or 300gig.

P.S - I never even opened up a PC so it would be probably be a challenge to even replace HDD on my X-box
