Well just saw that they had a small review of the GP32 in a computer magazine. It's called GAMEStm and its near the back of the magazine, I saw it in WHSMITH in the UK. It gets good praise and this will definetly help boost sales of the GP32, I love anything that shows this cool little machine off!

GAMEStm is linked with Edge and both of them are fairly common with gp32, they all old men who remember the good old days :)

Whoops!!! Just noticed this topic, and I have already created another - sorry.

Is it? EDGE is by Future Publishing, I thought Games TM was by someone else.

How big is this review? If its just 2 or 3 lines thn i wont consider getting this Mag. Although i might stop in at Safeways in the morning and have a look. Any Advertising is good advetising. :D

i think so duddy, but meh :) they might just have the same writers or something

I get both Edge and gamesTM every month. gamesTM is produced by Paragon Publishing where Edge is produced by Future pubishing. They are very similar publications and probably compete with each other. In fact, Edge seemed to bring forward its monthly publication date recently which may have been to get it on the shelves earlier than gamesTM.

The strength of gamesTM is that it has 20-30 pages of dedicated Retro content in every issue, for me this really differentiates it from Edge.

I haven't picked up the latest edition yet so I look forward to seeing the GP32 review.

I've bought EDGE from issue one (still have all the issues neatly lined up on my shelf) and it's still the best magazine, even today. Games TM is very good and worth buying for the Retro section alone, but it's not quite good enough to beat EDGE. I know lots of people who hate EDGE, they say it's too boring, too serious, too picky with review scores, etc. The wonderful thing about games magazines is that there's one out there for everyone. If I was loaded then I'd buy both every month, but I think four pounds is a stupid amount to charge for a magazine.

I really like edge but I find them a bit to jap fetishist. I just found it hilarious when Red Eye wrote an article on it in a mag that was probably the biggest perpetrator. :D Its that kind of "we can accept our own faults" attitude that warms me to it.

Nothing wrong with liking them but saying they do most things better than western coders is just as bad/ignorant as ppl who say jap games are all dating games for sad weirdoes who like fiddling school girls with demon tentacles. Both east & west have their merits and flaws but most ppl are enamoured with the exotic aspect of japware and forgive it its flaws with comments like "it looses something in the translation" or "its hard for us westerners to understand its cultural roots" all B'S' there are good & bad games both from the East and the West no one is better just different.

I use another forum called gamestyle. A couple of weeks ago I enthused about the gp32 on there. One of the replies I got was from a guy who did a lot of work for gamestyle and still contributes to the forums but had now moved on to GamesTM magazine. He told me that they'd just recieved one in the office and that he'd take a look at it when he could prise it out of a colleagues hands! I guess he must have succeeded if there's a review in this months mag! :)

Is there a wbsite that I can see their GP32 review on? Or is someone un-lazy enough to type it here?

Just go into a newsagents and have a look or are you too lazy to do that lol no offence ment m8!
It takes about 3 - 4 mins to read and theres nothing negative they say about it so big plus point for gp32.

I'll scan all the uk reveiws as i got free copies of all the magazines ;)

The GamesTM review is cool, the only thing i had to laugh at is they say the emulators are illegal, yet half the magazine is about retrogames and they MUST be playing them on emus... duhh...

Anyway they are doing a follow up issue on the GP32 focusing on the emulators, should be nice.

here is the text from GAMEStm about the GP32

its in the peripherals section!!!!!

"okay, so it might not exactly be a peripheral but having had the chance to give the GP32 a thorough test this month, we thought it was too important a machine for us not to point it out to you. on the face of it, it looks like just another handheld games console, get underneath though, and you'll soon see the difference. although it boasts a large 3.5-inch screen, a 32-bit processor and 16-bit stereo sound, the interesting thing is that it runs from smartmedia cards (the kind most digital cameras use) and uses open source code.
basically, this means that anyone with even the slightest knowledge of coding can program for it. it also means that, with a bit of PC knowledge and the handy USB cable that comes with it, you can upload practically any useable file (sound, video and more) to the handheld and then run it. and yes, that includes tons of specially constructed emulators for the GP32 - from commodore 64 and master system to SNES and even arcade games as well as older PC titles like doom and monkey island. while we obviously can't condone the emulated use of any game system (because it's illegal, don't you know), it's kinda cool just the same. plus the thought of being able to play sam and max on the move is worth the money alone.
being slightly more technical than your usual handheld, it's obviously not the kind of thing that's going to appeal to everyone. for us though, we don't see how we managed to get through all those long, lonesome PR trips without a GP32 (especially when the batteries in our trusty game boys died on us). with additional extras such as a backlight, wireless gaming module and even a carry case also available, now is definitely the time to pick one of these up. if it tickles your fancy, hop on over to www.gamepark32.co.uk and have your credit card details ready..."

i hope this was of use to anyone who can't or doesn't buy games tm magazine.
