And here's the questions

1: where do I find the programs to add to a bootable data disk to make a bootable format CD? (I want to do a fresh format and re-install of everything so it runs better)

2: How do I turn off all of the wizards and make windows stop treating me like an idiot after re-installing?

1. bootdisk.com or something. But it seems complicated, I was gonna try this to flash my bios from a booting CD as I have no floopy drive, but gave up after over an hour of reading crap. You might have better luck though.

1b. Why do you need to do this? The windows XP disk will boot up and create drives anyway. Just choose 'CD-drive' as '1st boot' in bios.

2. Err... I don't think you can, just tick the 'don't piss me off again' box when the wizard starts and it doesn't bother you again.

Basically, the problem is. I have no diskette drive, And I want to do a total format so I don't have junk clogging up the computer. So I need a boot disk to format. and do a re-install. (Also, I kinda need the command for DOS or a format prompt. I'm not too capable when it comes to command prompts and lines.)

And I guess I gotta keep telling windows to stop bugging the hell outta me with each wizard... ah well.

I haven't got a floppy drive either. When I last formatted and installed, I just booted from the windows XP CD, automatically went to fdisk, partitioned the drive and then formatted.

If you MUST have a boot CD then you'll find information about making one on that bootdisk site. iirc, nero can make a start-up CD, I think you need to choose bootable CD project in NERO, and then just add the standard bootdisk files from a zip downloaded from the bootdisk site. When I tried this though, it didn't work for some reason (I probably did something wrong in nero) and I didn't find the guides I read very clear.

I think the dos command was just 'format C:' and (I think) adding '/s' on the end would erase all system files or something like that.

Really though, I don't think you need bother making your own boot CD, the XP dsk should be fine.

So you can format using XP as a type of boot disk? Or am I not following you correctly?

I'd like a little mini-guide for doing this, I'm not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. :p

Jesus.......THAT was painful.... 8 hours of having my patience tried by microsoft....But finally my PC is up and running.

Nice to hear. :)

Did you get rid of all the fluff/crap ;) in XP.
I assume nothing, But it was xp you installed ?

[EDIT] Yeah, There should be a way to claim againt microsoft for stress related illnesses caused while installing any of their operating systems.

[EDIT2] The shortcut to remove all the fluff/crap in XP is in control panel, Called something like "remove all unnecessary shit", The trouble is when i clicked it, I formated my hard drive. :p

Argh! Now it's treating every folder like a damned music folder even though i've told it to identify every one as documents (so I can arranged by modified, etc...) And i've checked the option NOT to show the damned dates under the files....

Any help with this?

>>>>Edit:Nevermind, I fixed it, I just had to check "Remember folder view options" :p

>>>>>>>>>>Edit Edit: DAMMIT! It only worked for two folders, the rest don't have a single audio file and are acting wonky.

And I remember cutting the fluff/crap out of XP, and i've shut off most of it (trimmed down the startup, using classic view, and cut the crap out useing unplug and pray and other utilities) But some methods I forgot.

I get that a lot. Oh look, this photo album folder has the slide show option, but this other near-identical photo album folder is being treated like a regular folder. The 'type' choice is seemingly random and, despite me saving folder view options, doesn't seem to fucking save.

Just another one of those stupid XP errors that I am itching to get rid of.
