hi,

im currently pissing around with different emulators and now its the atari st's turn. wasnt really sure where i could find games though. is the st different from the 2600 and other atari's (i was more of a commodore 64/amiga gamer in the past)? what was the st like anyway, does anybody have any recommendations for a st newbie? cheers

martyn

my first suggestion would be to post in the correct forum (CaSTaway)

The ST was of equal standing to the Amiga back in the day. See JOE'S FTP post for where to download ST disc images of games.

flack, ol' buddy...

your obviously a little dazed and confused, maybe you'd better go have a lay down.

for your information, i have tried google and (eventually) found games. its just that the whole reason of an online community of this sort is to share knowledge. so it seemed a good idea to post a message and see if someone know a site that was just the dogs bollucks (very good) for atari games, since i dont even know what games are great.

thankfully someone helped me out in the castaway forum and it saved me a great deal of time. as for you, i think you need to improve on your communication skills and socialising a bit more. adios (prick!)

The best site ever is um, well I don't know if I am allowed to post it, so if someone tells me that I am, it will go here :

Google is good, but I think that they remove illegal stuff from the search, becasue I have a hard time finding ROMs on Google.

Guess why people helped you on the CaSTaway forum, but not this one ?

Oh and Flack that was a little nasty, as this -is- a place for game suggestions etc, but it is still true that you should search google to find out the difference between 2600 and ST, for example

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=mozc...een+2600+and+st

Result number 2, without even putting 'Atari' in the search query, has a list of all the Ataris and clearly shows the differences.

Put Arari in: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=mozc...ari+2600+and+st and that page jumps to position 1. There are lots of other relevant pages about it under that, too.

IMHO the ST was pretty close to the Amiga in terms of graphics (I may be wrong but I think it used the same CPU at a slightly higher clockspeed, although its custom graphics chips weren't as good as the Amigas). In tems of sound in games the Amiga was superior, or at least it seems that way through the emulators and my memorys of the machines.

hi,
yeh, google is always my first choice but i had a little trouble finding atari games for some reason. found lots of sites with dead links to files though. i assume that legal issues have resulted in the files being taken offline, its a shame because its not like the game developers are making any real money of these games now adays (well, to my knowledge anyway). eventually found a few good sites with hundreds of games though.

cheers for the link, i had a quick look. atari certainly had a strong presence in the games market then. never owned one, but there are a lot of old classics that i used to play on the amiga. also, a couple of revamped games, such as barbarian, defender of the crown, buggy boy etc, that i used to play on the c64.

anyway, cheers again

I didnt find many ST roms until i got pointed to the FTP link on this sight. It probaly because if you want to play the games they were better on the amiga so most ppl dont bother with the ST versions and just go straight for the miggy emu.

id agree with that jduk, i had a lot more trouble finding atari st roms than any other rom.

Had you checked the Castaway forum in the first place, you would have seen this post from three weeks ago.

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?act=S...=ST&f=16&t=1349

That would have saved everyone a great deal of time.

hi flack,
im pretty new to these forums so i never even noticed there was a castaway forum until the first reply to this post. now, if you had responded with that link (supplied in your last reply) before, then YOU would have saved everyone a great deal of time. instead you asumed that i was too lazy to check. shame on you.

Ignorance isn't an excuse... you would have been aware of the castaway forum if you 1) looked around a little instead of posting quickly or 2) just used the search function here on the forums. Seems like you were too lazy to check to me... too lazy to even check the forum list, let alone search for a specific topic.

Nonetheless, Flack didn't need to be rude either, but just because he what he said was mean doesn't mean it didn't have merit.
