Sorry if this has been asked before. I used to use a ton of emulators on my Pocket PC, one of the best I always used was MegamameCE which was capable of running a lot of 0.36 version Mame roms.

http://www.mameworld.net/mamece3/

MameCE was a smaller version which could still run about a 100 or so games but nothing like MegamameCE which could run about 800 or so.

Anyway i saw a link for the source code at the site. Now i'm no programmer so i dont know how easy/hard/impossible it is but if someone took the source code how easy would it be to convert it to a GP32 type version ?

Again sorry if this is a stupid question but if i could just get some MAME games working well on the GP32 i'll be happy as anything

Cheers

I think there are a couple of embronic MAME versions on the go for GP32, I don't think they're thought of as very complete yet, but I'm sure at least the one by fDave plays some games...? I think Craigx had one on the go too but it needed the roms to be converted or something. Didn't somebody enter a MAME attempt for a GBAX compo not so long ago?

Basically, yes there's stuff happening somewhere...

Yup, Shirohagen is right - none the of current MAME apps for the GP32 are very complete. Craigix's MAME can run some of the 8080 based games (Space Invaders, etc) and Mr. Mirko's gMame could (supposedly - I never got it to work) three games.

There is also gMame2 by Race8086 which is supposed to run 10 games (Amidar, Phoenix, Time Pilot, etc) with limited sound.

Xcade, which is not MAME, but does a similar job, can run a few games such as Pacman, Donkey Kong, etc. and works quite well once you get it running.

I think we'd all love to see a MAME port with a load of ROMS in a working state - especially when you consider how simple some of the early games were - We're talking 1 or 2 Mhz processors with 4K of memory for some of them!

I'm sure I read a few days ago that someone was going to have another stab at porting MAME. maybe it was Squidge? Or maybe that was a BBC emulator I'm thinking of... er, ? Sorry.

Like i say the one i use for PocketPC is very good, having Commando/Bombjack and many others all on the go on the PPC is superb.

On that site it says there is the MameCE source code so i was just hoping and wondering if someone could look at it to see if they could possibly use it

just wait for fmame32... it will be out before january 1st 2005, because rlyeh wanted to release all his projects before 2005 and leave the gp32 scene (at least for devving) from what ive heard.

Wow just seen his site.

If that fMame comes off and works well then i'm donating money straight away ! All i want is to be able to play Bombjack, Commando and Buibble Bobble on Mame !!

The other emulators hes working on will they also be out ? Excited to see the Amstrad CPC emulator, is fzx32 another spectrum emulator ? Also whats fogg32 ?

Exciting stuff !
