OK bearing in mind that the GBA emulater is a very unlikley event, even if it does appear, it won't be able to run all games, so how about a port?!

Yeah - a port of say, Mario Kart advance? Way better then the one on the Snes...

What about Advance Wars? And any other GBA classics?

i kno wit'l be tim econsuming, but couldn't someone downlaod the rom off kazaa or something, then hack into it/decrypt it?

Then we'd have somewhere to start.

But then I know nowt about programming..... so prob best to ignore me!

It isn't encrypted, it is compiled, which isn't reversable :( But ofcourse someone w/ great coding skills could dissassemble it (the code is run through a compiler which makes ASM code, a linker which combines all the ASM code files and a assembeler that makes the binary, the assembly proccess can be reversed to get ASM code, but the ASM code for the GBA is diffrent that the GP32 and is hard to convert) and after dissassembling they could convert the ASM, which is very hard :) prolly impossible, but someone might try for a simple rom that says hello, then mabye something more complex (commercial)

it seems like a gba emulator that runs at full speed is pretty unlikley. However porting a game from the gba to the gp32 is even more unlikley.

Creating an emulator optimized for Advance Wars would be an ok idea. Why? Because Advance Wars is a strategy game - specific optimization combined with massive Frameskip to get it up to full speed wouldn't make it impossible to play, as would be the case for any action game.

Without the original source files (which are different than the files you use to actually play the game), it would be incredibly difficult to reprogram a game.

Geez, the easiest thing is to reprogram the whole game...
Hell yeh, let get some origonal homebrew karting id relly like to see GP-Kart. with a load of characters from the EMU's the GP runs. Super Mario, Ninja Gaiden, Guybrush Threepwood, Alex the Kid, Doom Guy. With power ups like rubber chicken With a pulley in the middle :)

Well... GP Cart would be very nice indeed - but what would you use for it? Several choices as I see it;

1) Mode 7 hack - if someone made one. Apparrently its a comparatively easy engine to do, but I ain't a coder.

2) True 3D - There's a few engines out there that handle *massive* ammounts of polygons (untextured) which might be usable.

3) Get someone who used to dev for, say, PC-Engine to make one, last, game (anyone know anyone? I doubt it, somehow)

4) Do it top down (not my favourite idea, but one that might be OK) or isometrically (could be interesting).

Personally, I suspect the mode 7 hack would be most likely, but mode 7 games do look a little flat, so if a true 3D engine is on anyone's to do list, now might be the time to do it. In fixed point, of course...

It would probably be a good idea to code it in a 2.5D engine, such as Doom, only with slopes ala duke3d. That way you can have hills etc without it being too taxing on the gp32.

It also means, due to the abundance of 2.5D engine sources out on the internet, the engine would be easy to obtain.
