Official Psp Release And Omg

When's it out in the UK and US? Multi-Regional? If it's not, might as well wait.

Just thought, if it comes with a multi-voltage adapter, then Sony have obviously thought about this and it would seem that there is a good chance the games will be multi-regional?

The comments on Slashdot's posting of this news bring up some interesting points.

Game Gear and Lynx both advertised '4-6 hour battery life'

They both failed. Why? They ate through batteries too fast.
Looks just like when GameGear or AtariLynx tried to take on the GamBoy:
Higher Spec, getter graphics but bigger, more expensive and shorter battery life than the GameBoy.
I still take the 4-6 hours of battery life to be optimistic given their past articles wrote on this topic.
There are articles like this one circulating the web that says developers are responsible for good battery life on the PSP

http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=2305 [gamesarefun.com]

What are developers going to do ? Randomly decrease the screen brightness or turn off the screen for a couple seconds at a time ? Half the processor speed ?

Maybe games like Metal Gear Acid and Gran Turismo run fine for 4-6 hours now and that is why they are releasing these figures. I guess we will have to wait and see.
" this is a cheap alternative to a portable DVD player"

It can't play DVD's.

And unlike portable media players, you can't convert videos to a different format and download; you'll have to either buy your movies again in a new format or hope that Sony's new movie format catches on so that you can rent them.

Not terribly appealing, particularly since cheap portable DVD players can be purchased for well under $200 these days.
The NDS has double battery life, is significantlly cheaper, and can run games from the gba. Where is the competition? I'm only seen a better N-Gage, but without the phone. It's been born dead.
the games..
That's all that really matters. Have you looked at the lineup for the two systems on ebgames?
Nintendo's games are, for the most part, hand-hend games. The GBA's best titles (Advance Wars, FFT:A), would not work as home console games. They were designed specifically to be 'pick up and play', and put down for an hour, then play again.
The PSP seems to have mostly ports of PS2 games. This won't work, but I suspect most people will ignore this fact, and be turned on by the sexy graphics of the PSP, and the PSP will do well, with shitty games, because most people are too stupid to base their opinion on anything that matters anyway.

I'll stop now. :D

psp for me *yay*

i think this'll be a huge blow to nintendo.
the whole dual screen experiment was very dangerous on it's own imho. but with the psp it's getting dirty ;)

I tell ya, I've pre-ordered a DS, but if I had the choice, straight up and PSP was deffo region free, it would be a PSP everytime.

4-6 hours aint that bad unless it's for like a plane or something. Most trips are short, the battery will be enough, then recharge it or play it at home as well.

How much yu want to bet that the psp and ds are only made at a couple of dollars
a piece  and then the psp's disks are made at a penny a piece. that would mean that sony and nintendo will make tons of CASH!! <_< that sucks <_< <_<

well i dont have to debate because ive had an n-gage im getting a dzand a psp and im not gonna spend my money on that zodiac also i will still play with my gp as long as it doesnt brake :D

nintendo are fucked
That's what i'm thinking, i mean just compare the amount of units sold of Ps2's and Gamecubes. It's a shame really because nintendo will probably have a few killer titles but lack the volume of mediocre games that the majority of consumers will buy. That aside i think with the psp there will be GTA, GT, PES and SF titles to look forward to.

not to mention Square-Enix games, portable Final Fantasy 7-10 remakes?? Me hopes.

forgot, to add this, maybe since the PSP can play movies, FF7 Advent Children will be released for it.

Advent kids WILL be released for it. Squenix are releasing remakes for ds and and sequels to CC.

I wish the gp32 had the psp's hardware :(
The psp is cheap, but
Additional rechargeable batteries will cost 4,800 yen ($45)
THAT sucks!

I think it'll be like the memorycards for the PS2 though - you're bound to get third parties making cheaper batteries.

To be honest, at that price I'd be tempted. All depends on the quality of the games and their price. Also, I doubt the price will be that low in the UK - more like £150 I reckon....

yeah but you see every one still thinks ff7: advent child is a game but its not. Its a film thats being produced for psp. And plus if ds fails we can all geta look at gba 2 at e3 next year and that will take psp. Im getting ds for the quality of the games and not for the graphics. Thats why nintendo will get one over sony here. Its not about grpahics its about new ways of playing. What are sony famous for in the gams industry? Nothing. Look at all the stuff nintendo designed.
