This game is nice, the graphics are a little iffy, but the Gameboy color emu is nice (fGB32). The stretching, savestates and the sound make metal gear on the gp32 a great game...

problem is, whenever Im riding up the elevator in stage three right after I get the level 2 ID card, it stops.... the whole emu just locks up. Anyone else have this issue?

If so... anyone found a way around it? (compatible save states? a different emulator?)

If not-- what does everyone think of this game? I think its a great example of how great gameplay and a good (to decent story... i havent finished the game yet) can really make up for so-so graphics...

thanks...

Its one of my favorite Game Boy titles. I think it captures the Metal Gear Solid feel best possible. Excellent gameplay, and I'm pretty sure it's the same story as MGS on PS1. I've beaten it 3 times, but haven't played it on my GP32. I have the rom so I might check it out and help you if no one has answered you on this problem. I suggest having Ryleh checking it out by sending him your savestate, and the ROM if its ok.

There are at least 4 dumps out there of that game. I never played it on GP32, but maybe you have a bad dump?

Or it could simply be an emulation issue (probably is). But if you haven't verified your ROM then give it a check.

The one to get is:
Metal Gear Solid (U) [C][!].gbc
CRC: 4b0c5d6

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I really do think that it is a great title. And one that is particularly great for the GP32. I understand that SNES and Genesis emulation has its problems at the moment-- but the GB color emulator is spot on (in my opinion)... and MG like you said really captures the spirit and feel of its bigger PS brother...

---not sure how to send these to Ryleh... but if hed be willing to look, I would be happy to send them along.

---on a side note... I wonder if there are two MGs for gameboy color? I am using one called Ghost Babel in Japan (i have tried both the japanese, and english versions of the Rom with the same freeze in gameplay).

-- the story here is definately different than the PS version-- i think its a prequel that happens between the second NES version, and the playstation one... But I will admit the story is almost a parallel to the PS version. Similar events, characters and goals... just different names and places (Central African Jungle vs. Artic tundra)

-- but... you are not the first person to suggest that their MGS gameboy plot is the same as the one on the playstation....

are there actually two versions?

It really would be sweet to try the PS storyline on the GP32... even a decent clone would be nice-- the sprites from this game could be used...

Just to mention-- the sixteen days Metal Gear VR entry is pretty fun too... in case you havent tried it already. (its what made me search for the gameboy version)

I really want to keep playing this game.... portable metal gear is sooooo cool

thanks..

**edit**
just checked the rom like you suggested-- nice idea, but thats the one I am running. Darn... I was hoping that was the problem... easier to solve. hahaha..

I thought this was discussed before, but I think you have to have a save off your computer after that area on the gp32
dont ask how, thats just what I thouht

and no, its not the same story as Metal Gear, its the opposite, its what would have happened if the PSX game didnt

Octavious...

Yeah, I think you are right-- I was poking around yesterday, and came across a thread of top ten lists people had for gameboy-- and one of the posts flat out said-- Metal Gear freezes at the elevator and you have to take your save state off the gp32 to com... play past it... and then take the new save state back--- so its obviously come up before... (sorry)

it just didnt mention what emulator I am supposed to use on the PC...

any ideas?

Thanks for the help....
