I'm about to possibly buy a second hand FLU... anyone want to tell me if there are any major differences between the two other than the light? i mean hardware wise inside.. hard to search FLU and BLU with the 3 letter thing

There is really little difference. Some BLUs are capable of higher, more stable overclocking, but sometimes the reverse is true.

If it's your first GP32, a secondhand FLU, for the right price, would be a good buy. If it comes down to having to chose, I would prefer the much more even and crisper lighting of the BLU over an FLU any day. A buddy of mine that had just purchased an FLU before I got my BLU took one look at the BLU, and hawked the FLU on ebay to buy a BLU.

I guess the reverse is the most likely ??
My BLU goes to 166mHz (modded)... but mu FLU goes to 252mHz
The BLU however does have much better light, so i can't decide
which one i should let my girlfriend have.. i love them both!!!!
... the gp32_console 's i mean ;)

I always recommend Davey's site for screenshots:

As for hardware differences, there are none, except the USB cable is different for some weird reason. Overclocking differences are mainly about how the unit was manufactured, so your "luck" of getting a more highly overclockable unit may only be a little bit better with a FLU, and I say this only from observation - it's not really provable.

Oh, and if you didn't know, the BLU uses the Select button to turn the light off and on, while the FLU has a seperate switch on the back.

I only have a BLU and a non-lit, so I can't tell the difference between the lights ;)

But the L/R buttons and the control stick go a little bit harder on my BLU.
That's nice for the stick, but makes it harder to play Pinball Dreams using L/R ;)

A mixture of both would be cool.

Remember, you can't use the BLU in sunshine, it's impossible to see the screen. I've never had a FLU so I can't comment on that.

I had a FLU but it developed a fault with the light so I sent it back and got a BLU, the screen is a lot brighter on the BLU and the colours dont look washed out as they did with my FLU.

Make sure they havent had any problems with the light before you buy...

Umm , I have a Non-lit, a Flu and a Blu, and you can see the Blu fine in sunlight. It's only about 10% darker than the Flu. And by the way, the Flu is about 10% darker than the Non-lit.

What happens if a game needs Select button to be pressed? Does the light turn on and off while playing?!

you have to hold select for 3 seconds for it to change.
its fine in most games. I've had a few problem in games where you hold select to
few the controls though

Having owned a FLU in the past, and now owning a BLU - I think the BLU is definitely superior. The screen is one of the best I've ever seen on a handheld.

The Select button issue is sometimes annoying but minor. The screen quality more than makes up for it. But I hope someone finds a simple hardware hack to bypass it someday...

But, if you're getting a really good deal on the FLU (like that $100 deal on the selling board for example) then it's not bad at all. The only thing is that FLUs tend to have washed out colors, not as bright or vivid compared to BLU, and dust collects under the screen and gets lit up like light bulbs due to the frontlight. Otherwise they are great.

The hardware is the same. But the screen is so much better on the BLU that I couldn't use a FLU anymore. The lighting is uneven on the FLU with lines going through the screen (trapezoid), and the inevitable dust particles that light up like a Christmas tree on the FLU. Then you have the colors that are very washed out and the poor contrast. The BLU has deeper richer colors, much better black level and contrast, no light leaking or dust, much more even lighting. So My opinion is don't bother with a FLU.

Screw open your BLU, find the LR-Buttons and take them out. Then bend the little shiny metal-thingys a little and off you go. That should make the buttons as easy as you want.

@topic:
I'd always prefer a BLU. The light is lighter and the picture is clearer. - Even if you can't see a lot in the sun - normal people do not use a gameboy when the sun is shining. :) If your in a room, the BLU kicks the FLU's ass. Seriously.

I know this is slightly offtopic but i was just wondering if theres anywhere you can like send off your GP32 to get a flu put in or something similar as i now regret getting a non-lit. I dont want to ebay it and buy another one either, i like mine it overclocks as far as ive tested it :)

No and there will never be a way to do it.

Well, 3 seconds...... good, it shouldn't be annoying. Thanks Tekt5! :)
