I got a 16MB SMC but It wont work. I try to Format it and Windows says something like "This Drive Cannot Be Formatted"

I can put it in the GP32, but the GP32 wont read anything and just display a blank screen.

When put into a Digital Camera, I click format on the camera and it says CARD ERROR

Is there anything that can be used to try and fix the card or is it ready for the bin? ?

Thanks

Try SMC Recovery from Aquafish's firmware.
Repaired an SMC from me once a while ago (same thing, no other Device could do anything with it :))

I did exactly the same thing...

You need to find a tool that will format the card into FAT12 format...

Alternatively - if you have another 16MB SMC kicking about and an USB SMC reader / writer...

download winimage - www.winimage.com

Use the application to make an image of a working 16MB SMC card - then plug your windows formatted SMC into the USB adaptor and write the image back to it...

This will make a perfect copy (formatting n all) of the other 16MB SMC card - allowing you to format it using your GP32 and the PC application...

Hope that helps

Cheers

Gig

By the way...
I have a 128 mg SMC that don't work anymore.
My GP32 says: SMC is not inserted or no game exist...
My SMC reader says the same: No SMC inserted.
So i can't even try to format... is my SMC dead?
Thanks

Just now i've "rescue" my forgoten USB cable and i've try Pc-link. When i try to look at SMC content i get and error but i've try the format and now works very well. :)

try the method in my post above - if you have another 128 MB card...

does your USB reader / writer - recognise that it has been inserted (flashing lights - drive letter appears in windows etc...)

if so - id imagine it would work - otherwise - i am out of ideas im afraid...

you want to put an fxe on (I assume) another SMC which then you can't acess with the buggered one in, so I think you are gonna have to flash.
btw, I was also really scared about flashing, now I've got Slubman Firmware and I'm so glad! :D, thanks Slub ;)

Yea, Im gonna try that now... The When Inserted, the SMC Readed Flashes and the Drive Pops up in My Computer.

I cant use PCLink as when I put the SMC in the GP32 and try to connect to PCLink, it gives me a Connection Error (But when I try with my 128SMC it works)

Surely once I have loaded the File off a Working SMC the data is Stored in the GP32's Memory and then I can put in the Damaged SMC and run the repair software.

(When using a GP32 File manager I used to copy a File as long as it was under 8MB, removed the SMC and put another SMC in and pasted the file onto the different SMC and it worked)

RIP 16mb smc, you have served the gp32 scene well,

now you will go to the eternal smc fields where you can play with the other silicon spirits.

sweet fair enough, I didn't realise that you could do that with that program. I'm assuming that program uses RAM then?

yea.. .I just tried doing that Method and it didnt work... GPDrive says DO NOT REMOVE THE SMC (When I did, it just crashed the GP32) so that way wont work.. I think ill just charge my batteries all night and Flash it :p
