well it's that time of the year. last year we got a surprise of both @ the holidays... sadly this year I predict neither.

(Would love to be proven wrong though!) Guess we'll have to wait and see.

(ah well..something to talk about besides the *(#$&(@#&$ DS and PSP, what else can I say...)

fgen32 is being worked on. Not sure if it will be out anytime soon but its being worked on.

Not so sure about osnes. Good enough for me however. :)

Los Angeles is my hometown. :)

what about DrMD? Haven't heard anything about that since the compo, I guess reecy is still working on it cos gbax is sponsering him.

Man, I'd donate some cash if someone picked up OSNES9X and fixed the goddamn transparency issues :D

last genesis emulator I had was gigadrive with basic sound, I think...

what's the score nowadays? I'm wishing for ASM-optimised Z80 with zip support and savestates...

frameskip 1 with decentish sound, good compatibility, and savestates... is that coming?

edit: nice topic title... ;)

Here's a couple of snippets from emuboards should make most people happy!

(all from Reesy of DrMD)

-----------------

Zip support is now implemented. If a rom is stored in a zip file, the long filename stored in the zip is used as a reference for the game in the rom menu. Otherwise if the rom is not compressed the CRC of the rom is checked against an internal database in order to find a long file name. If either of the methods fail the short filename is used ( dos 8,3 format ).

The new menu is finished as well with just the save states to do. The save state browser will show animated previews of the saves as seen in Fgen. But DrMD save states will not be compatible with Fgen saves states, this is basically because it will be a royal pain in the ass to do and I can't be bothered.

I have not made any changes to the actual Genesis emulation, once I've got the boring UI crap out of the way I will start work on this again.

Later

Reesy

---------------

Uncompressed save states are now working. I've just got to add compression to them and they're done. Then its just a case of tiding up everything before making another release.

Thanks for everybody's support

I just finished a useful new function. The emulator now remembers the last rom and last save state you used and the next time you start DrMD, the emulator will ask you if you want to continue your game. If you select YES the emulator will load the rom, then the save state and off you go. ( You can tell I'm a lazy bastard can't you smile.gif )

now that all, well, that all is just friggin' cool-ass awesome.

if Genesis emulation gets to the level, quality-wise, of GPEngine then I will ask for no more.. save states are a huge plus of course.

this is great! I am so happy (and kind of shocked) that Reesy did some GP32 work. I know he had been lurking in the scene for ages, but I kinda gave up hope that he'd tackle something (esp. after all the DrSMS/GB stuff over at GBA scene) But I guess when you are into something, you are INTO it.

it would still be cool to see SNES get a little further but as it is I am very satisfied, hell NES is already perfect (yayyyyy!) so I am pretty damn happy with GP32 has got.

Someday another system will come out, I have no idea which, that will play all these systems to perfection, but I just know it will never have been surrounded by such a bizarre + mysterious (+ therefore exciting) scene as the GP32 one was/is. You never knew what was coming next. This has truly been my favorite period in emulation, aside from watching Mame develop back when there were still tons of big games coming down the pipe periodically (castlevania, super contra, pole position, empire strikes back)

I'm glad we all got to be a part of it. It's a good thing this site came about.

Reesy seems a little more platform agnostic than some. While he still does GBA stuff he also spreads his love to the GP32 as well. This is great for us. It is too bad FluBBa doesn't throw us a bone with a much needed completed PC-Engine emu, especially since he has a BLU. But he seems deeply attached to Nintendo hardware so His PC-engine emu on the GP32 is just a pipe dream unfortunately.
