Hi all, I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

I've got Gens (Mega-Drive emulator.... I *refuse* to call it Genesis ;p ) and just a couple of .smd rom files for it. But wherever I download the game Mercs from it comes in a zip file with a whole bunch of .rom files all named so2_(something here).rom

I have *no* idea what to do with these things... I need to look around the forum a bit more, so I hope I'm not posting in the wrong place... thanks in advance to anyone that can tell me how stupid I am :D

I'm in a good mood, so I'll help you out ;-)

The files you have I think are called so2_ I think because they stand for Soldier of Fortune, which I think is the Japanese name for Mercs. The reason why there are lots of them is most likely because they are an image of the arcade machine and *not* the home console version.

In other words, you have the wrong thing ;-)
And I can guess your next question and the answer is no, sorry no rom requests :)

lol well I was guessing there's no requests to be had.... it's odd though because these have been listed under 'genesis'... I tried asking MAME to play it but it doesn't seem to like it or I'm missing something as it won't add it to the list.

Anyways, cheers and all that :)

edit: got new version of MAME... all is good in the world :D

I'm thinking Soldier of Fortune is the console-name for the Chaos Engine....

Not a clue.... but Mercs (the file I was describing before) works perfectly well under the latest version of MAME.... though it's actually much faster than I recall, I'd rather get hold of the Mega-Drive version <_<

There are heaps of places on the internet to find game roms and images. I find that using google alone will bring up many websites on this planet that provide emulation images.

MOST of what you find under google when searching for ROMS(I tend to use yahoo, same for their search results too) tends to be either old old sites that no-longer HAVE the files they link to.... or are extremely dodgy sites trying to infect you with spyware.... or are just plain bogus.... do you not think I've been looking?
