Is there any way to hook up the GP32 to a regular TV ? It would be cool to watch a movie / play games on a big screen when on holiday.

Probably yes. Gamepark has for own use some kind of connector which let you connect your GP32 with computer monitor. But as far i know they dont think about selling it. They use it on exibitions and other shows.

I definately remember reading in a review of the GP32 that the EXT port was for video out and "other stuff"

The 5 (in that ballpark, I don't remember exactly... You could use a wire hooked up to ground and you could test out each wire) little metal thing out from the left is the video port, use the headphone port for sound.
And then you need to up the pos (+) part of the cable to the ground port.

You can use one of those other cable and mod it so that it lets you put it in the out port...

What I did is I took it apart and plied a wire onto ground and video out on the inside, and then drilled a hole in the side and put it in a female video out port... It doesnt look that good on a TV, though.

EDIT : The other ports are for data - (Serial port data, methinks?)

that would be great. i was playing my GBA Player on the GC last night and thoughtk, ooh - imagine all those PCengine and ST games on my TV!

Is it really that easy?! You mean all this time I've been watching it on the built in screen when I could have been sending it to the cigarette lighter powered 4inch black and white TV (with built in AM radio) lying around my room? Damn, I've been missing out. Imagine the possibilities! If anyone felt like making a step by step guide, I'm sure it would be gratefully recieved (by me at least). Anyone tried it on a composite in TFT monitor?

I am quite positive you could modify the GBA TV-out to work on the gp32

Like I said, it looks horrible. The GP32 screen is not intended to be 'blown up'. On my 20" tv screen, it's horrible quality and looks like how you blow something up in paint.

I'll post a how-to.... (This is how I did it...)

1. Go to http://www-public.tu-bs.de:8080/~y0018703/...r/gp32_xray.jpg . Look at the bottom of the image, and you'll see the ext. connecter. And then you'll see the little prongs on the top of that ext. connector. It's easier to work from the inside then make a tiny wire that plugs into the outside. Once again, im not certain of the video out connector, I just probed the whole row of connectors by cutting my video cable like so...

Two wires===============Plug

With the plug plugged into the TV, i took one end of the wire and attached it to the ground connector, and i just slowly touched the other connecters with the other end one-by-one until I saw an image on the TV...Once you see an image, memorize the connected you connected it too.

2. OK - now this is the hard part. You have to drill a hole on the right of the ext port, one that is wide enough to house a female video out port. Once you have that hole in the casing, work on the inside so you can fit it in well (I used a glue gun and just made it swim in there until it dried), but don't insulate the connectors, and make sure the case can close. Now, ply a ground wire to the ground prong on the connector, and the other wire to the other prong of the connector. Congrats - now you have a working video out port.

3. Attach a male-male cable to your GP32's video out port and the other end to the TV. Use the headphone port in order to have sound.

Easier way to do it:

1. Order a cable from... http://www.hyupjininc.com/kor/product/3050_1801pin.htm

2. Dissect the cable to find the video out wire, and then remember the color of the wire. Attach a male video connected on the end of the cable to the ground and video wires.

3. You're done.

I'm not responsible if you screw up your GP32.

wait, wait, wait!!! are you saying that the gp32 has tv out? or is this just a theory? an idea? or a wish? does it need special software? are you insane ;)

I find it hard to believe that it is capable of composite video out, but if they can use monitors with them it might just be possible. But I wont believe it until I see it.

Tim: Show us a pic of your tv running the bios.

Tim, I'm not into any of this technologically hardware modding talk, so i'm pretty much lost on how I could do this and yet I want to do it.. but I dont want to mod my GP32 or open it up either.. someone help me.. :(

Also do you think you can let me know if audio onto the TV works, or is it still played on the handheld itself?

It would be cool if you could take a picture of how this looks on the TV then let us see.. ;)

EDIT: I forgot to ask.. which cable must I buy? <_<

3 are 3 connector plug? which one to buy? or is it all the same?
hell, if it does work perfectly on tv, no more (backlight?) soo you can play those dark games!

i hate to say it but, i think that he's lying <_< actaully, i'm sure he is  i looked at the pinouts of the port a while back and iirc NOWHERE does it mention video OR tv :( sorry. i wish it were true ;)

Hmm...

Well, even if he posts photos, it's far too easy to use TV-out on a computer and doctor up something from the GP32 and make it look like TV-out.

The only way I'll believe it is if someone well known in the GP32 sk3n3 does it. If it's possible, then somebody could make a small load of cash selling pre-made cables. I'd buy one.

Well, I just wanted to check it out if its real. Im not gonna try anything like it because its pointless. I have a screen built right into my gp32, and I assume its like that for everyone elses too. But I hook my gp32 up to my receiver all the time. Its good for listening to mp3s and stuff. Easy as getting a male phone to male rca cable.
